Hi Guys, i am about to launch the second part of my business which is going to be wedding stationery and table plans etc etc but am really struggling with a good solid but creative name. So, i thought i would come to the most creative business people i know and ask for help!!

I personally like a business to say what it does in the name but i would like it to be a bit more creative than my shop name is so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.....;)

Paula,

Will you be doing the seating plans by hand, or selling the software for DIY seating plans?

I am almost thinking "R.S.V.P" or "R.S.V.P wedding stationary and etiquette". Written in a fancy, scrolly calligraphy font?!?!

I'll think more and see what I can come up with.

I like that idea lots amy. Love the rsvp bit.

Carrieanne, i do like that as its practical but i am thinking something more creative than my current name.

We are doing everything by hand, I have lessons booked, have bought all of the stuff and have worked out most of our designs. We will be doing bespoke guest books too.

The Wedding Papers.

No, that's not a good one, but I'm hoping someone can build on it.

If you want creative... how about "Come + Sit" - On your logo make that large, then in small letters underneath, write "invitations + seating arrangements". That may be a little too out there...

If you are doing everything by hand, how about "The Ink Well". We have a customer with a name something like "The Quill"...

A little more literal, there is a local place we have here called "Invite Design."

I have a side business doing graphic design (that I am in the process of turning into a real business... long story) but I have a worksheet of questions that I ask my clients. Some would apply to figuring out a name too...

1) What is your target market - are you in a more conservative or more liberal area? You could have the greatest, most creative, name in the world, but if turns off potential clients because they are super conservative, it defeats the point.

2) Do you prefer literal or creative? (You have sort of already answered that.)

3) Do you have a color preference? (Yes, that affects your name too - if you plan on having a hot pink logo you don't want an old fashioned name.)

4) Are you going for formal or informal?

5) Is this (the invites, seating charts, and guest books) what your forsee the end result of the business being, or do you plan to expand into even more areas in the future? If so, you will want to be careful what you limit it to.

Hope this helps a little!

Very helpful actually, i want something a little creative but not too over the top. My shop name is literal though.

Oh you have given me more to think about.... thanks

keep the ideas flowing plssssss;) I had a thought of "inspiring invitations" or "inviting wedding stationery" what do you think? Crap? or Not Crap?

I have a personal thing about two word names. Don't know why. So I like Inspiring Invitations. Personally, I would keep the word "wedding" out of it. I know you like that concept - but are you going to exclude other events? Wouldn't you want to do invitations for other things like anniversary parties, bar/bat mitzvahs, etc.? I have no idea what the area you live in is like, but any where in the world where there are hispanic people, there are quincieneras. (Maybe there are no Hispanic or Jewish people in your area, if so, forgive me!) I know, weddings are the main target...

That fact that you are doing everything by hand is extraordinary, at least in my area, so I am thinking of spinning off that.

How about; Weddings by hand. or; inspirations by hand.

or something along that line.

Well thank you so much for all your input. There are some fab ideas as usual.

I have invited a colleague to become a partner in this project, she is desperate to get into business and i thought that this would be a great opportunity and also relieve some pressure from myself. Once i do something i go full throttle and i am not sure that the shop would not suffer so i think a partner would be really beneficial.

Anyway, she came up with this idea and i have to say i love it

"by invitation only" ,
providing a full range of bespoke stationery for every event...

What do you think, i just feel really positive about it. And i was leaning towards some that you mentioned before she said this. I especially like RSVP..

Hey Palms, how about just..
"by invitation"
when I read "by invitation only" it is like {possibly} doors closing, like ooooh ladidah, the 'only' becomes emphasized, it is exclusive - and it works like a negative for most of the population reading that,
where-as"by invitation" is inclusive to the reader, it is positive, your intended target market is drawn in, not excluded
just my 2p

Franca that is a very good point and now you mention it i hear it myself, i will mention this to angela. Thanks, your 2p is always appreciated.

I like "by invitation" too. One more thought from the killjoy of the crowd. :)... Before you go through the paperwork of registering your name (if that is necessary in England) go online and check for domain name availability. Even if you are not going to develop a website now, make sure it is available. At some point (your call as to whether or not you do this before or after you register it legally) it would be good to just buy the domain name. From godaddy.com it is only about $4/month. You can later have it transferred to be hosted by whomever develops your site. Trust me, you will be glad you did if you end up not losing out on a great name.

This from experience... I chose what I thought was a wonderful name for my jewelry business, only to find out I couldn't get it as a domain name. And now, I have the world's longest domain name for it! BAD idea.

Same thing happened with a friend who has an interior design business. I just did her website. Spent oodles of time trying to find a domain name to go with the wonderful business name she created. She never did end up happy. What she wanted just wasn't available.

Pionneer, its like you read my mind lol thanks for thinking about me!!

I already checked and its not available and we are now pondering whether to add stationery to it or to change the name completely. the website address would be byinvitationstationery or byinvitiationonlystationery (which i think is a mouthful).

I have even tried the - in between like i have on mine but they are taken as well. I really want .co.uk and dont really like the others.

I will for sure keep you posted as i love to hear people's opinions.

cheers
