Well Google even signed off on the name, and a local dude is up and running with a new community space on the web...

Local sort of, but there are members across the country too...thought some of the younger family members might like a look see...

MYgoogala.com

Pass it around...and Jon, no signing up ya here...it's for the younger set!

Like I'm not immature enuf?

this scares me.. I see this being on dateline very soon.....

I'm with Shannon. I took one look at it, thought about my 8 year old, and thought "this might be a really easy place for an adult to pass themselves off as a kid".

I'm in total agreement here with Beth and Shannon on this. Way to easy for an adult to pass themselves off as a kid. Being the very proud uncle of a computer savvy 7 year old neice keeps me on the lookout.

I am going to send the link to my local investigative news channel and clue them in about what appears to be a kids-oriented MySpace.

Easier than MYspace or Facebook?

IMO it's up to the parents to monitor the kids...and like the other two, these folks monitor activity on the site... article about the site it's geared toward families....

Not defending the site...just thought it cool that a localfriend is trying to do something that could make a difference....

Exactly...I'm a bit tired of the whole "won't somebody think of the children" excuse being used to censor/control the internet. Tell the kids to go play outside with actual kids in an actual playground.

Boss,

I'm sorry.. I didn't read your orig post very closely.. didn't see that this was a friend of yours. You're right, it's no easier than Myspace of Facebook. If someone wants to hurt kids, they can do it anywhere. No reflection on your friend whatsoever.

Boss you are exactly right ...

about Parents job to monitor the kids.

So I have Nanny watch and everything that is chat related is blocked. My kids can call their friends on the telephone if they would like.

Chatting on the internet is a NO - NO. I'm sure the same if your son would have been 8 at this time.

Nice site, but I don't want my kids picture or fingers doing anything on the web with someone I don't know. Remeber that " don't talk to strangers? " What has changed?

I mean no offense, but I really don't care whose site it is or whose friends it is....

Coulda Woulda Shoulda.....Yeah, we've heard that before.

Children go missing everyday, LOTS AND LOTS of them. Doesn't mean they had bad parents. Bad things happen to good and responsible people everyday.

Children find a way to do things that they really want to do. And believe it or not, get this....SOMETIMES they even do things against their parents wishes. I know- I was shocked too.

You can monitor their activity on your computer in your house, but what do they do outside of your house? Unless you plant a micro chip GPS system in them, you don't know everything. Think about when you were a kid..... Don't know about you, but I know I did some stuff I still wouldn't tell my Mom or Dad about! Kids are kids. That's what they do. They don't mean to get into trouble, sometimes they just do.

How many times have we heard of kids getting into trouble and the parents say "I just can't believe it. There was no sign of any trouble at home. He/She was such a great kid. Never did anything wrong, blah blah blah." It happens all the time.

My parents were VERY strict with me. I still managed to do some less than desirable things. I just rarely got caught. Nothing illegal, but stuff I was told specifically not to do. And I was a "good" kid. My Mom and Dad weren't with me every minute.

Predators love vulnerable prey. Children make great prey because of their innocence.

I can relate - I too had strict parents growing up and even I pushed my fair share of buttons, and I got my butt tore up more than once......and their wisdom, guidance, rules, punishments, and love made me the person I am today and I am thankful everyday that I still have my Mother in my life.
