In a previous thread, we discussed dog flowers and novelties.

Today, I was wandering around FTD.com and found a number of Todd Oldham novelties that evoke the fun side of flowers. Some come pre-assembled and some are DIYs. The only low-priced item (under $40) was the ice cream cone.

Floral Ghost - $69.99

Halloween Spider - $59.99

Pumpkin Kit $69.99

Ice Cream Party (7" high) - $34.99 ea

None of those prices include shipping/handling and the products are only for next-day delivery.

The category definitely appeals to buyers sending whimsical wishes for kids and adults. Is anyone seeing increased requests for these types of designs? Are you currently developing some low or mid-priced novelties or do you believe this a fad quick to fade?

If you're offering them, care to share your best sellers?

We have been dong the ice cream sundae and birthday cakes all along. Sundae is a favorite with the going to the hospital crowd-right down the street- retails at about 15.99.

What "goes around--------comes around" ???

Too funny,... I was one that voted that they take too much time...can;t get my money outa them...

Next week (if I can find time) I'll try to scan and post some images of days gone by. I have the text books my Grandmother used in floral design class back in the late 1940's...some things never change...

And some things....SHOULD! ;)

truck full of flowers

I like to fill a Tonka Truck with flowers for a new baby boy. I have also used a John Deer tractor and filled the attached wagon with flowers.

These work for me, because I think I was the first in my area to do it, and unique ideas are becoming a part of my "brand".

OMG! We still get requests for the smiley face made from a football mum or carnations (Dezeal, I know you just fainted away!) in a bud vase.

I think the novelity stuff is always fun and seems to have a place. They are great alternative for kids when flowers are requested but perhaps not the adult style.

I've been tossing around how to do a snowman for a winter fun special without making it into a big production.

That dang B-day Flower Cake...

...put one in the cooler...boom. Sold.
Put another in...boom.. Sells the next day. We keep one on hand at all times. No, we don't sell one every day but this month, we have sold 17 of them...
People know we do them, so they reorder them. A leftover from our 800 days...except we get $40 for it...usually able to add a mylar loon no problem.
