This is an email I just received from a gal, not a customer nor a bride

Hello, my name is Lisa and my fiancee and I are getting married in Nov and my wedding party is hosting a Stag & Doe for us, and as such we are all trying to contact any local businesses to see if any would be willing to donate anything for prizes as we are expecting aprox 200 people and really want this to be a huge success. We will advertise your donation/business on our facebook event page, our own wedding website, flyers, posters, kijiji, shout outs throughout the evening, business card on raffle table and also possibly in the paper. We would appreciate anything... & we can pick up. thank you very much thank you

This is just wrong on so many levels, what is it with the brides and grooms of today, such a level of greed I can't stand it. I won't be responding but if I did it would read like this, you decided to get married, fund it yourself. Hope you folks laugh as hard as I did, makes for a good Monday chuckle.

I think I would reply and let her know that this is not considered any type of donation and list what a bonafide "donation" actually is.

Hi Missy,

.....and are you doing the flowers for their wedding? You say it is not a customer so wtf? Takes cojones, that's for sure.

However.....Send a letter or e-mail that states your donation policy, indicating that you donate a set amount per year to needy causes that help sick children and such, and that their party does not fit the criteria. You hope they will understand that if you donated for their party, that would leave less for the seriously ill, etc.

This couple needs a head-on collision with reality, be the bus that knocks them off the track!

The plain stupidness isn't limited to Brides and Grooms, nor people who appear to have no money..

Get this- 2 years ago when I was managing Aprils this woman who was dressed very well and is one of the filthy rich in Durango comes in to the shop and says to Natalie "I'm here just checking on my donation for this weekend" Nat says "What donation?" The woman says "The donation YOU said YOU'D give me when I was here in May."

Of course I have my manager ears on. So I interupt and say "I don't recall any donation for this weekend. Natalie, lets go look in the office for the "paperwork""

We go back in Amy's office and Nat tells me that this lady has money out the wazoo. Nat continues to tell me she came in and filled out a donation request form (yes we made people fill them out) but it was for a party they were having...Yes it was at a lodge, but they weren't raising any money for any charity, they were literally having a party. And the request form went in file 13 instantly.

The shops policy at the time was we took donation requests and then Amy decided who recieved the donations in any given month. And no more than 2 groups received donations per month. It was a great policy!

Anyhoo-
I go back out to the front and I say "It looks like your request was not granted for the donation, instead this month our donations went to XX and XX"

"YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!" she yells at me "I DEMAND TO SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER!!"

"I'm the manager."

"I thought Natalie was the manager!!"

"No ma'am, she's the assistant manager, and Amy is the owner, she's out of town but if you'd like to speak to her she will be back........."

"NATALIE TOLD ME I WOULD BE GETTING THIS DONATION BACK IN MAY!!!! THIS IS RIDICILIOUS DO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THERE WILL BE NO FLOWERS AT THIS PARTY!!!"

"Well let me see what I can do. There are a lot of causes we whole heartedly believe in here at April's. And We do have a great selection of flowers this week, who will be benefitting from the party?"

"What do you mean?"

"What charity are you raising money for?"

Without skipping a beat she says "No one."

"So it's just a party? Not a fund raiser?"

"Yes, it's just a party."

"Well, our average priced arrangement is $65 plus delivery, but you can pick them up if you like. We're open until 4 on Saturday. Would you like to take a look in the cooler."

"You mean I'd have to PAY."

WTH... I told her yes, and she left mad as hell. And I do not care. I didn't care then and I don't care now. She is a horrible woman and I wasn't about to be bullied for fear of my job. But I kept my cool. Some of the dialog may be a bit off, but I can remember it like it was yesterday.

I just couldn't believe the gall and her yelling at me the way she did. She's lucky Amy wasn't there. Natalie denied up and down about telling her she'd get free flowers and I believe Nat with my whole heart. Amy did look at her request form and she threw it away. If it had been a true mix up, I could have made something for a real fund raiser and Amy wouldn't have had a problem with it, Amy trusted my judgement. I think Amy would have been pissed at me had I caved and given her flowers.

It's amazing what people want for free. One thing I learned to be true, that I always suspected- Money can not buy you class or manners.

I have been saying that the amount of benefits has been rising and I am going to say some things right now that seem heartless but this is how I feel so be it...

This week I got an invite to a benefit..I man in my city of 26 committed suicide, he had no children and had a drug problem and a totally screwed up life(not that this matters).....his family is having a benefit to benefit themselves because they want to recoup the money they spent on his funeral....say what..This to me is rediculous...I could see if the money was going to drug program to help others, a scholership of trust if he had children, a wife that was left to get her through until she picked up the pieces...

The kicker is his father who works for the city, has been in the news for 2 years being accused of taking bribes to get city work done faster for those that can afford to grease palms to the tune of 150,000 dollars...this is disgusting in my opinion the last I heard on this there was a 2 day wake with full amenities and a lavish after party for the funeral...Should I donate to this or even care, I don't even know these people and could care less...They certainly didn't care when my dad died and I had to cut every corner to save whatever money my mom had so she could live, and I would have never asked, ever...

The gall....

I'm surprised that most of you have not encountered this as of yet, but, it's strange, that we received at least one such "request" with almost the same wording, ad verbatim .......very strange indeed.
Are there any sites out there, "advising" so called bacterial clients on how to "extract" products from retailers??
Much of the public has "painted" flower shops as easy targets, it really is our own faults for being such pansies, but, ALL retail has hard and fast rules about "donations" and this example certainly qualifies as the gc file.....
