A little bird told be that a big OG (one that recently jumped from one WS to another) was calling its top filling florists and telling them they needed to join the new WS if they wanted to continue to receive orders.

I had forgotten all about this angle and wonder if the big order volume will persuade some (many) big fillers to add more dues, fees, sending systems, etc... to keep the orders churning through their stores.

Many years ago, before I knew what OGing was really all about, we used to fill a lot of orders for NationalFlora. One day they called to say they had joined FloraFax and if we wanted to continue to receive their orders, we needed to join, too. I told them if they wanted to continue to have our good quality and service, they'd need to send to us via TF OR if we were such value to them, FloraFax should comp our membership.

We never filled another order for them.

Today's situation is a bit different since this Blooming OG today is moving oodles of orders. A florist who's based his/her model on fulfillment will have fixed expenses such as as infrastructure, vehicles, and employees (to a certain extent) in place to service these orders. The orders will evaporate with out taking on additional service costs.

Of course, if the fullfilment florist has done a great job, shouldn't the OG be concerned about continued quality and have loyalty for all the years of good service?

Doesn't sound like it, does it?

HA, HA, HA!!!! They don't care what kind of job you do for them as long as their orders get filled and they don't get a ton of grief for their efforts. They are fickle. They probably get even more rebate money for signing on their big fillers. I'm sure it's money driven and not customer service and quality work driven.

Filling florists should never forget that there is a switch that can turn off their incoming orders within a minute. A fellow florist had an issue with bloomnet (who I assume you are referring to) 3 days before MD.. and viola!! after he hung up.. they never received another order from Blm. in fact.. since he was the only florist in his town Blm coded its computers to say there was no florist in his town..
Fairly sure it did not bother my friend ..just hope all you fillers understand that the switch can go off at any time..

It all comes down to this. If your shop is completely dependent on incoming orders, you are in big trouble. Better start working on a strategic plan that balances things out and start moving on it right now.

Going forward, strive for a nice balance between local and wire-ins, put out good quality work, and always look towards the future for the good of your family and your employees. No one else will.
