whatever
Ok I am freaking out...the Marine Corps Birthday Ball is in one week!! I haven't even gotten a dress or picked out one I already own to wear. I have absolutely NO idea!! I don't know what color I'd like to wear...or how I want my hair. But I have to pick the dress first to decide on hair....UGH...being a girl is such a task!! ;)

Those are very formal events, aren't they?

Yes they are Connie! although some don't completely understand the word formal...I have seen some doozies through the years!! lol

For me formal denotes a certain class and elegance in the whole event.
I'm sure you will look lovely in whatever you chose.

I was thinking of putting a flower in my hair..like they used to do in the '40's I believe it was.

When my oldest went to the Navy Ball in SC, she wore a navy blue scoop neck with caplet sleeves adorned with a tiny crystal necklace and matching small drop earrings. She carried a silver glittered purse to match the necklace and earrings. Kind of like the "little black dress" only in navy.

they are very pretty!!!
but too short...Looking for full length gown....
I have this one:

butterfly_gown.jpg

It has butterflies going from the top down the side of the dress....I'm wearing a black bolero jacket I think it's called with it...to cover my tattoos. It goes all the way to the ground...the only thing stopping me from wearing it is that it's VERY sheer and I was so self-conscious about it when I wore it to our company convention this past June.

Gorgeous! Do you know a seamstress? Sounds like it needs a lining put in it. I have a dress like that... haven't worn it yet, for the same reason.

Aileen,

If you are looking to buy a gown check out edressme.com. I bought two dresses from them for a recent cruise and they were fantastic. Some prices are crazy but, you can catch some really great deals.

You'll look fab no matter what you choose.

It's just two parts to the dress, the sheer shell and then the pink silky underlayer... so it looks burgundy. I loved it but just was worried even though I wore a black victoria's secret body piece under it...you know the kind that goes from top to bottom to make everything look smooth..no lines..plus a black bra underneath that and I still was worried because of all the bright lights and the flash on everyone's camera!! eek!

thanks Heather...I will check it out!

I would suggest an elongating updo for your hair Aileen... and perhaps a pajmeena rather than the bolero.

Thing is I don't like to fuss with something...I always try to steer clear of shawls/wraps...I don't want to fuss all night worrying about covering up.

I was thinking of the same thing Victoria..an elongated updo!
Been on the net for the past hour lookng at dresses from david's bridal nothing I really like there. I think I will go out to the stores to have a look and see if something catches my eye and is a deal!

I know what you mean about the "fussing" thing. My reasoning behind a pajmeena or shawl is again for elongating. Those of us who are well endowed tend to looked chopped off in a short, form fitting type of jacket.

Best of luck shopping. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

Well I better get moving quick! I guess I will wear the dress above....I gotta take the boys to the dentist today plus I work tomorrow & wednesday...which leaves me just 2 days to find a dress and I don't know if it's worth running around like crazy trying to find something else!! lol

Just stay away from bright lights and camera flashes! LOL
