Yeah, I just wish I knew how to make a difference.
I was listening to an interview about the explosion on the Ocean Ranger that exploded in the Atlantic, off Newfoundland, a few years ago, and they were saying that the danger of explosions in ALL of the off shore drilling is known, and that there is a percentage of damage type of calculation, where they balance risk vs benefit, and that the benefits out weigh the risks, so somehow that makes it a viable option to proceed with off shore exploration.
Then I heard that the US government approved a new licence just a month ago for a new off shore drilling operation to proceed off the coast of Maine.
Then I think about the over land options that are being explored to carry the oil from Canada's North to the US to supply that market, and, yeah, there is tons of money to be made, but at what cost?????
And then I think of the pressures to sell our water to California, because the US needs fresh water, or there will be terrific disaster, and then the same arguments come again, all over.
Honestly, it is so unbelievable that we are able to come up with solutions to so many challenges, but we continue to be dependant on an energy source that has proven to be so destructive to humanity.
There is no doubt that the whole thing sucks............ but what, if anything can be done?
Sometimes I feel so small, like we don't have any power. And that sucks.
