On the Today show this morning, the hosts previewed and showed the flowers that will be presented to the athletes. A hand-tied bouquet of green fuji (spider) mums, jade green hypericum, a collar of a foliage that looked like podocarpus, leather, and either rolled ti leaves or rolled aspidistra.

Gorgeous, simple bouquets.

This thread reminds me of my experiences with the Olympic Committee. I do know what this florist went through.

We were asked to come up with a single flower to hand to every single person that came to the opening ceremony in Atlanta. Every day for weeks, we went to present what we considered a good choice. The panel would discuss this one flower and nitpick it to death. The flower was always to local, too smelly, too much color, too little color, might have pesticides on it, not classy enough, too classy, and the list went on forever.

They finally settled on a single sunflower after a very long time. 50,000 sunflowers were then ordered and brought in which was a major feat in itself. They decided to only give them to the women at that point.

In case anyone ever wants 50,000 sunflowers....that is not an easy task. No one grower carries that many at a time. It became the most complicated thing about working with the Olympic Committee.
