Sitting home with a broken leg for half the summer gives you time to think about things; so Sep 8 we dropped our TF membership effective Oct 31 - I'll let you know how they treat departing members.
When we advised TF Canada that we were leaving they did make an attempt to keep us but when we looked at their offer there was no benefit (at least to us) so nothing changed. I have to say that TF Canada's staff were always helpful and friendly but it came time to choose and since we use FTD marketplace it was the obvious choice.

You don't have to be FTD to buy from Marketplace. :)

Infinit is that true that you can buy from market place with out being a member? If so how do you go about doing that?

piece of cake, you just go to FTDI.com click on market place, log in as a guest or non-ftd member and go from there...

I got their catalogs and bought from them for a couple years before I was a member. I imagine with that "guest" shopping any club or anyone can buy those "exclusive" products, and now that wholesalers have them, well.....we know who they will sell to, pretty much anyone!

So much for spending all that membership money for something exclusive! Nice to know that everyone can try and piggy back off all that marketing the membership pay for. OPPPPPss- forgot, they really only promote .con. Well, it was a thought.

Was nice that I had to go to 1-800s site to pull a photo for someone who saw that arr but want us to make it.

I think you have time to change your mind.

Considering I could send and receive on either the choice came down to 1. brand recognition- some compared to none; 2. discount at marketplace vs none as a non-member; 3. lower cost calendars etc; 4. lower cost monthly fees; 5. Don't have to put up with TF headquarters trying to palm off skimmer orders while refusing to "admit" who the real sender is; 6. when FTD has clearance mdse it's available to Canadian members whereas TF refuses to sell their's to us. Admittedly mostly small points but they all add up; WTH, if I'm wrong I'll go back (if advantageous) or move on elsewhere (Peter or Guy).......
I no longer expect FTD to promote my business; but I feel I can use them (and their logo) to do so; the situation is different for Canadian and US members where the public is concerned because by the time a Canadian consumer sees what FTD charges for the product (quite often mentioned that FTD.con orders are a higher value) PLUS their service charge PLUS exchange at the credit card holders' providers rate most Canadian consumers bail and call direct knowing that they saved money which goes straight into my bank account (hey, you gotta be optimistic)........
Hey, maybe I'm wrong, Jane tells me I was before, at least once :)

Update

Just received the Nov-Jan directory and we're still in it even though we gave our notice Sep 8 and it was acknowledged by TF Canada! Waiting for a response from TF to an email request for an explanation.........

Maybe it was not in i time to make the cut of the publication.
You maybe infact still amember for another three months if you didnt send before your cut off date.

My understanding of this situation is, if you quit TF but are still in the directory, they ask that you continue to fill orders, you will get paid for them, until the end of the directory cycle. You should not have to pay any fees to them, such as membership, directory etc. Of course the standard order fees would still apply.
Let us know what they say.

Jim

We had our notice in Sep 12 which is the date they stated as the deadline.

Hey Rock..

Unplug the Dove...answer those phone calls and tell the sending florist that your not a member anymore but your shop showed up in the current directory by mistake...end of story!.

Next fun thing to do is to make sure your not billed for the three months of being listed in the directory.

My deadline is Dec 12th which we beat by a full month however Blue will still fill orders for Flowerchatees via a CC with no tax charged. F2F--"Florist to Florist" gotta love it!.

This is probably off topic but BOC's comment about sales tax made me think. How do you not charge sales tax if you are on the receiving end of a direct order? I know the wire services have an arrangement with the various state tax boards but I do not see how you can take a direct order with out collecting and then paying state sales tax on it. If I collect tax in CA on an order, I am paying the state tax board that 7.25%. How does a florist in MI reconcile that with their own sales tax?

Be careful ROCK....

IF you choose to continue filling orders for TF, AND they agree to pay you, you WILL also get doinked for the membership fees, right OFF your "income" cheque, UNTIL you are outta the book, or until you REFUSE to fill the orders!!
Welcome to the world of ONE wire service...whichever you choose
Mike

BOC, No turkey here to unplug! Depending on how we're treated will depend on how we handle ANY incoming TF orders; I don't expect TF Canada to cross us BUT we're weary of what can be done. Until I have it in writing re any fees nothing else happens. We're going in to Nov owing them so right now I have the aces and we're waiting their next move. We have documented everything so far in writing and everything has been cordial (sp?) so I'm not anticipating any hassels. Rock on..........
