Have included a map on google of the approimate burn area.

Business has been non existant for the week.

You can tell that most people aren't even working around the area and I am sure this will have a lasting effect even after they get the fires under control.

Wow that's close to home Eric

Might be a good weekend to take off and enjoy what you can.

I don't usually watch the news, but last night I happened to do so. Don't even know what to say. Can't believe the devistation. I'm just getting to know you guys and wondering who the fire will be affecting. Thanks for the info.

This business is always one step forward two steps back..I'm just relieved to hear that you, your family and your business is alright...Hurricanes are awful but these fires are frightening to see...God Bless the firemen and rescue workers...Stay safe and touch base with us E...we will all be praying for you.
...I spoke to Rich and Scott down in Fountain Valley yesterday and as of then, they were alright but talked about the drop in business and the long term impact this will cause as well ...You all take care... Sher

Eric -

The Google Blog has links to a bunch of maps that feature So Cal fire areas - http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2007/10/southern-california-fire-maps.html

I had seen the one from KPBS and it's amazing how comprehensive the information is.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the impact on California flower growers. I talked with someone from Mellano this morning and their farm (San Luis Rey area of San Diego County) is OK but they let employees go home early due to all the smoke.

I understand some growers in the Fallbrook area (Rice Canyon fire) were hard hit - losing fields of proteas, euc & seeded euc, boxwood, myrtle and fillers like wax and lepto.

Very, very sad news. :(

I remember as a kid (30 yrs. ago) climbing on the roof of our house in El Segundo and watching the fire light up the sky over Malibu. Kinda' seems like hurricanes in Florida now - every year or so.

I was born in Escondido and can't believe the fires in that area.

It was 70 degrees here yesterday.

Strange days. Hope you are all OK down there.

It is terrifying and heartbreaking to watch the newscasts about the fires. To live in the area and to experience the affects would be horrible. My prayers are with you guys. Take care of you and your families.

Thoughts are still with you all out there - I can't believe the photos we've been seeing - fire tornadoes?
Stay safe.

San Diego Fires

I was flying home from Oakland on Tuesday (delayed by fires) and took some photos from the air as we were coming into San Diego. This is one example of the Harris fire from the air. We are no longer in evacuation mode and as bad as things appear and sound, we will all get though this. THere are many many happy endings as well as the losses you are all hearing about. I had the shop closed on Monday and half days on Tuesday and Wed but we are back up in full swing now. Amazing how much cleaning can get done when there is down time and I have completed my Xmas special lists and prepairing for the Holiday season. THe worst is over, one of my favorite local firemen came into the shop today to pick up flowers for his wife on his way home for a much deserved rest. It was a honor to beable to thank him for his dedication and choice to put himself in harms way to save lives and families. No more sports hero's my life, the REAL heros are our own home grown, home town sons and daughters who work as firefighters.

can't get it to work for me Cathy and Jon I sent you the photo earlier, perhaps you can paste it into this format for me. Thanks
Marilee

Slowwwwww

It is amazing how things are being effected by our fire. This does seem to be having a major effect on business and I have yet to see anything changing. This week will go down as the slowest week on record.

The smoke seems to be mostly located to the south of us and it is good news to hear the people are being let back into their communities.

However looking at the most recent report the santiago fire will be reaching Santiago canyon within the hour.

Here it goes again....

God speed to all involved either fighting the fires or running from them.

We're thinking of ya'll this weekend....

This batch of OC fires looks horrendous. The major east-west freeway and major north-south freeway through our area are both closed.

Here are views from the front and back of our shop taken about an hour ago. The pink thing in the 2nd picture is the sun.
