Looks really nice Mlou!

Here, the dogwoods are beginning to bloom, the yellow things are blooming, bradford pears are blooming and we can't make up our minds whether to have heat or AC.

Right now the ac is winning.

Joe

Oh yea, Forsythia.

Just Beautiful! Thanks for sharing a bit of spring in Houston. I'm a gardener and I've never seen (or heard of) an Orchid tree. I think I'll google it and check its chances in zone 7!

uhmmmm, it's 28 degrees, the back yard's water explosion is frozen (and thank goodness the dog poop from all winter long - he he), the dried brown leaves from last fall are blowing around in 30 mph winds BUT my forsythia has buds on it....think I'll cut it tomorrow and put in water so it will be pretty come next Weds or Thurs. Until that time....the maple sap is starting to flow thanks to almost 30 in the day and below 25 at night......Gee, every year it seems to take more and more for the snow and cold to go away!!
That is a beautiful sight...and so are the birds who are singing up a storm every morning at my feeders. Only about 3 feet of snowbanks left to melt on most sides of my house and back yard. Don't ya feel better living in the South???

For a better look...

Spring has sprung here in Houston...time for the air conditioners.

Thought you might enjoy seeing one of our orchid trees...

.

...would it be possible for you to post a close-up of one of the blooms? This is beautiful.

This picture isn't very good, but it's the only I have at the moment...

Blooms are beautiful, sweet smells, attract hummingbirds and butterflies and can be cut for indoor use.

Thank you. I'm trying hard not to be envious.

thanks for sharing Marylou, makes me want to move to Texas.

Our daffodils are blooming in Ohio, and the lilacs have buds. The tulip bulbs (I have been begging my sister-in-law from Holland to send, finally arrived last fall, yes!) are up...but something is eating the tops! UGH! Put a temporary screen over them, hope I get some blooms from them.

What is the botanical name?

I call it...
Bauhinia purpurea

One of our's bloom late summer thru the winter...
most bloom now thru the summer

We have one that has white blooms...

That's beautiful Mary Lou! When I was in Houston last week I noticed all the beautiful azaleas in full bloom also. The ones in Austin sure don't look like that. It must be that Gulf Coast air. We do have the bluebonnets and indian paint in full bloom though. The highways are scatted with color. I LOVE this time of year!

Lots of forsythia here, tulips/daffodils/hyacinth, zillions of trees in bloom. A little bird action at our feeders, but also a rodent interloper stealing the seed that's on the ground.

This time of year is a series of highs and lows... in temps, water levels, moods. :)

Today I had the opportunity to go to Sarnia. Along the way I encountered all the harbingers of spring I require. T V's, robins, red wings, herons (great blue), the odd fly... oh my. Trees starting to lace with life to come. I love the promise... and I love the orchid tree. Thanks for sharing that Mary Lou. :)
