Avast, Mateys!

At the SAF Convention last week, I heard a term that was new to me.

I LOVED it.

There was a panel discussion about making business adjustments in the current challenging economy. Bill Gouldin, of Strange's Florist in Richmond VA was on an industry panel for a program. He's a floral SAGE in my opinion.:grovel:

Among other smart comments, every time he referred to what we'd call Order Gatherers, Bill instead refered to them as Order Pirates. How could you be more accurate!?!

That's my new term now, too. Order Pirates.

Order Gatherers is TOO KIND for the skurvy dogs!
Ahoy! :porttopor

Just a few days too late.

Friday was "talk like a pirate" day. Too bad I wasn't on the ball - should have switched the board over to pirate talk, just like we did with the Swedish Chef on April Fools :)

I saw a grownup leave a school dressed as a pirate.. complete with parrot on his shoulder. I had no idea what that was all about! Thanks for clarifying.

Here on the OuterBanks,we have a whole weeks worth of activities last week for Pirate week. I enjoyed anoying the staff on talk like a pirate day.
"ARRRGGHH , You dropped some stems on the deck you should use in ye arranging thar."

But it has hard to be piratical while working on mulitple weddings!

Order pirate is maybe not the right term, maybe privateer is. Since the WS are giving the OG's legal license to pillage the orders.

Order Pirates! Aye! Good one.

Back in the day (pre-internet), I used to refer to the 800 MIDDLEMEN SKIMMERS as FLORAL ORDER TELE-BUCCANNERS.

All terms seem to eventually come under the heading of PIRATES though!

Here's a link which breaks them all down very nicely.

Both Privateers and Buccaneers seem to have shared one common ground in some cases though.

PAPERS or a Marque of Letters, having been issued to them by a PRIVATE COMPANY or a GOVERMENT, then gave them permission to STEAL OTHER PEOPLE'S STUFF!

"Some times these letters would give the captain rights to act in the behalf of a certain company or government to commit acts of reprisal, escort merchants, or protect coastal areas or property. Often the limits of the Marque were vague, leaving it up to the captain and crew to determine what they could take or attack. Sometimes the privateers ignored the Marque and just did what they bloody well pleased."

Which brings us back to the WSs enabling their Buccaneers and Privateers, ALL PIRATES, to run their SKIMMED ORDERS through their MIDDLEMAN wringers, thus leaving a filling FLORIST with CHUMP CHANGE in the form of WS WAMPUM Spanish Doubloons and pieces of ate, like in, we (in the middle) ate all your profits up.

Filling florists might be considered MERCHANTS in this link.

"A Merchant is a ship commissioned by a government or company to perform specific noncombatant tasks, such as shipping cargo, transporting slaves, or perhaps obtaining bread fruit. They would sail under letters from companies or countries giving them permission to complete the tasks. The men aboard were called merchants, merchant sailors, or merchant marines. Merchant ships were often armed and sometimes escorted. The crew received their pay from the company or nation that outfitted the ship."

AGHAST MEE HARDIES!
lol
