Hey Boss and all you Michigan Boardies.

That was a terrific game on Thanksgiving, between the Lions and Packers. Both teams showed passion, they both wanted that game, so both were winners. My son [Holland, MI] invited me to the game but I felt needed here for this weekend.

Think of what independent florists can do when they have passion for their business. In fact, I believe that passion is the one thing that is going to keep successful florists in business.

It is not about liking flowers, it is being passionate about what flowers do when they convey/express the feelings of the customer.

We hear much about the care and handling of flowers and so little about the care and handling of feelings. I am going to create a speech about that for one of my Toastmaster manual speeches. Feelings are more fragil than flowers.

But back to my opening remarks, I certainly am not rubbing it in that the Packers snuck out of Detroit with a win, it was about how both teams played.

I was thinking something very similar yesterday, as I had a conversation with a verrrry succecssful and shrewd businessman, who pretty much made me feel like a moron for not jumping on the OG bandwagon. Clearly, that's the way to make $$ and do very little (in his words). Yes, I want to make money. But I couldn't fathom being passionate about a totally different business model, couldn't detach myself from the pride I have in our storefront and community relations. It could be seen as a downfall, for sure, this pride.

Ah well, more deep thoughts for those late sleepless nights.
