Our website http://www.flowerhut.com ranks well for the two keywords that we feel are important: "Charlotte Flowers" and "Charlotte Florist." That's partly because we have worked hard at web SEO and with links.

Once the Home page was pretty well done, my SEO software "told" me that I didn't have enough inbound links containing the keywords of interest. So we spent a fair amount of time pursuing reciprocal links.

But it's kind of a "hassle" to get and keep them.

I have received some offers from companies offering to SELL us reciprocal links.

The PLUS of this would be that we could "instantly" get many more inbound links.

The MINUS is that I'm not sure if this technique "works."

Could someone share their personal experiences, please?

Thanks!

Bill

Don't do it. Definitely not through a service that 'instantly' gets you inbounds.

If you get caught buying links, your site could get heavily penalized by Google and cost you big $$$ in the long run. Read what G has to say about buying links.

Lots and lots of discussion about paid links. Start here.

It's important to understand a few nuances here:

Paid Links: Paying someone (directly or through a service) to link to you = BAD
Paying for link building: Paying someone to acquire or manufacture links = OK

Paid reciprocal links: Entering into an agreement with someone else to link to each other, possible in exchange for cash, but not necessarily = BAD
Natural reciprocal links: When businesses naturally link to each other (ex: florist blogs about a wedding, links to the photog; photog blogs and links to the florist) = GOOD -> This is what builds the link ecosystem that Google was built upon.

Red flags: "paid" "instant" "hidden" "undetectable" - Any of these terms should end the conversation.

Oh, footnote ... paid links really do work! Until they don't.

Just ask Overstock.com, JCPenney, etc. :)
