We have had some very moving posts about our pets in the post months, I got this in an email today.....

PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainments, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters.

Now please pass this on to other pet owners. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs!

"There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face."

In my prayers at night among other things I ask God to protect all the animals and keep them from going hungry.

Thank you for giving us the list.

Now I cry all over again.

I love this piece Clay... I've had it for sometime... since I had to send George (the cat) to his final playground.

We have so many people in this world doing unspeakable things to animals and yet they continue to love and trust us.

Thank you. This is very much like the Horses Prayer that I have posted in my barn. It is very moving and have never felt it more than this past week. Last week I had to put my beloved Lady to sleep. She was a 34 year old palomino horse and I had her for 30 years. She and I had some great times. All my pets have always been in my prayers each night. They are family. Thanks again. Gudrun

Gudrun, I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to Lady. You and she were fortunate to have eachother for so long... and I do believe you'll meet again.

Gudrun - sympathies on the loss of your friend.

Clay - I'm going home right now to torment my cat by being attentive, affectionate & p;ayful. It drives her crazy, and she runs away, then comes right back, swishing between my feet "Do it again mom, do it again!"

:) That's my Elmo too sometimes.

I love animals and would love to have a dog or several, but Elmo put all four feet down and said neow to that. So, I dog walk and pet sit instead... so now I have many dogs. And I love them all.

Aw Clay that's awesome.

Gudrun, sorry to hear about your loss. I never knew how long horses lived. In a way it's harder cause you had her so long. :(

Tracy, my kitty is just the same! I give her so much attention all the time and she is a sassy little thing who acts like she needs no one but she makes sure to be in every room I'm in.

Thanks for this Clay

Thanks for this Clay, it put me in a very harmonious state for something else I read later that night and the wonderful insights that I recieved as result.

Joan, Don't beat yourself up for that. I have had many animals over the years. I have held some in my arms and others I just couldn't be there.
You cared for your cat for many years, remember those memories, not the last.
