Any suggestions on how to design a phalaenopsis orchid corsage? I was thinking of gluing it.

I read in a post for a bridal bouquet, and it was suggested to wire them. Wondering if I could do the same in this instance.

IFeel that it is best to wire, you get a better look, and the glue would be my second choice, I do the hook down the throat, tape of that back, and get good control over the orchid.
Good Luck, they are one of my most favorite blooms.

I would have to agree with Eddie on this one. That is how I have always done Phals

White taped wiring through the throat is how I do phals, but, I coat them in floor wax first. It takes a while to dry, but bruising and scarring is cut down to a minimum and they become much firmer.

We prefer to wire them....

We've always found that, Phalaenopsis Orchids are so fragile that, we just don't trust the glue method.

We use a 23 gauge wire, 18 Inches in length, and fold it in half while trying to leave about an 1/4 inch space in between.

At the fold of the wire at the top, we gently make a small loop.

We use that little loop and place it over the orchid's pistil as we gently slide the two wires through the petals and next to (parallel) to the orchid's stem. Sometimes, you have to adjust the loop to make it bigger or smaller to accommodate the size of the pistil.

White Orchid Pistil

At that point, we like to support the petals with either tulle or white satin leaves or small calyx leaves and tape all of them together, pop on a bow, and away they go!

Even if a kiss, hug, and a squeeze, touches our Phalaenopsis, or by the end of the evening, it's become dehydrated, the loop holds the orchid on and the backing keeps the florets flat and still looking good.

I'm intrigued - is there a brand name you recommend or will any variety do? How do you apply the wax, paint brush or spray bottle?

I always wire phal orchids - actually most orchids - just for a little extra insurance. We back with tulle or leaves as well, creating a kind of nest we attach the orchid too for support and protection.

Cherrie, I'm also dying to know more about the floor wax... Is it a spray, or do you dip the orchid? Also, what brand do you use??

Thank you all! Time and time again, you've all come through for me )

I'll give wiring a go!

.......on using the floor wax......

mix one part wax to two parts water.......any clear non-ammonia wax will work.......use the wax solution to dip the flowers in and let dry.

Well, thank you, Teresa.

I got the cat from here:

There are gazillions of different animated gifs there, plus there are lots of other sites too.

You can choose from the predefined avatars shown in the upper box, or make a custom avatar, by finding an image online that you like, or uploading a pic from your computer.

I don't think it will let me edit yours, otherwise I would offer to do it for you. Hope this helps!
