I have been using Photoshop Elements to edit our website photos. I have had reasonable success in editing our product shots to place on our website. I am able to de-emphasize the background (which is almost always white or at least neutral) and highlight the product.

I am very interested to know how to completely remove the background and add a drop shadow for the product. This is such a clean look! I've tried using the various selection tools but have not had much success.

I assume that there must be a faster / cleaner way than getting down to the pixel level... does anyone have any tips or tricks to share with the class? I will be forever in your debt!

Thanks in advance!

Tutorialize.com is a pretty handy resource as well. I don't use Elements, so I'm not sure what features are there compared to the full version of PS.

Hi Michelle
I to use Photoshop Elements, it is an old version would think about 2001 so might not be the same as yours.

To remove the off white background from a photo and replace it with say a white color from the swatches menu this is what I would do.

1. click on the Eraser button then right click and select magic eraser. Go to your photo and click on the background, this will now be erased or most of it will . Go around the bits that are still visable and click on them. look out for little bits within the arrangement. when all has been deleted go to the layers tab, click on it, go to bottom of list and click on new layer button. your new layer should now be highlighted in blue.
Now go to the swatches tab and pick white.
Click on paint bucket tool button. now click on the main screen where the photo is, this will now be filled with white. Your photo will disappear, just a white image.
Go back to the layers tab. left click on the new layer and drag it below your old photo.
You should now have your image with a clean white background.

hope this helps Kevin.

Remember you can alway Undo whatever until your Save it.

Corel's Paint Shop Pro has a background eraser that rocks.

I'll go right around a piece of leather fern or beargrass.

Even cut the stuff between my motorcycle spokes.

Knees and ankles too?
Is that what happened last year? :scooter:

I'm honored to have been Erl's 1000th post! :tunes:
