Anyone know where I can get pink peonies for August 29th? My bride really wants them for her bouquet. My wholesalers are reluctant and have no idea of price, if they are even able to get them.

I don't want to lose the wedding, so I need to get back to her asap.

don't promise the bride!!!!! You can't control the weather, customs agents, etc. Just find out from June, Mayesh, etc, and say you will do your best. I have been burned by promising peonies when they aren't a 100% sure thing.

You can try and hope to be blessed, but they are out of season here in the states. Queen is the queen and june.com has come through for me in a pinch. I would never promise a bride this though. Sell her garden roses. Tell her truth about the Peony season and that other florists may be telling her stories to get her business.
Tell her you will try, try, try, but don't promise. You could stand to loose your reputation on something you really have no control over.

Edit:
Last August we had the most beautiful burgandy Peonies in, so you never know. They did come from New Zealand.

garden rose as a backup

Can you tell her that in the event peonies are not available, that you suggest using a Yves Piaget garden rose? They are quite striking, and may give a similar-enough look...

My suggestion exactly. A full-blown garden rose can rival the beauty of a peony any day.
I've learned to just nip those types of requests in the bud real quick at the consultation. I also stress to the brides to focus on the overall floral look of the wedding and not a single flower type. Takes a bit of the heat off of me if Mother Nature can not produce... JMHO

I say contact Mayesh. I do know I was able to do Peonies at the end of August last year, but one never knows what can happen.

Quote a very, very high price with the diclaimer that if it's possible at all to obtain them....it worked for me with lily-of-the-valley at christmas....

This will often shock the buyer into reconsidering.
Young customers are often passionate about something until they realize that the cost is prohibative.

It also protects you from having another venue saying they can obtain them anytime !

yes, Sue, the garden roses mentioned have a nice fragarence. She will like them....and this is a close to a peony as you are going to for sure get in August!

:) she should either get married in June, or alternatively, fall in love with another flower! (just kidding!)

We cann make miracles happen, but we cannot control nature.
