As this is one of the most lack luster times of the year for the Northern hemisphere especially and a real dip after the excitement of Christmas and the New Year I thought we could cheer ourselves up with pictures of our favorite places, the ones that make you feel alive.

All my places pictured are no more than about 15 miles from my house so I feel so blessed to live in such a lovely part of the UK. ENJOY!

This is a view from The Chevin that rises above the market town where I live. The picture was taken in late summer and one of those places that is special. David and I quite often see roe deer in this field during summer on light nights. The crag in the next pictures can be seen in the distance on the left of this picture)

This is taken from and of Armscliffe Crag about 3 miles from home towards where I live. The picture down the valley is facing towards home.

This is Beamsley Beacon. I can see this from my livingroom (I have to say it is in the distance about 3 miles away (in the opposite direction to the crag), but on a evening when the sky is red this looks on fire and when the heather is out like in this picture it is the most wonderful place. (These are some of my favourite pictures)

This is on the top of the moors about 7 miles from home. This is such a bleak place but I just love the solitude. I love the top of this moor.

I know it isn't as dramatic as some places in the world but this is home and I love it.

The pictures were taken by my partner David. He's hoping to make some of his pictures into cards to sell in my shop.

I look forward to being inspired by your pictures too.

My favorite place in the whole world is the Southern California Coast.
San Diego area is my favorite. Designers make nothing in SoCal, and the cost of living is insane- so I'll stay in ABQ.
But I sure do love going there.

Oh and I love the moon. I love looking at it- however, I've never been there!
I also LOVE New Mexico sunsets. There is NOTHING like a New Mexico sunset. They can bring you to tears.

Shannon I hope you post some pictures so we can all share in the places you love.

Well I had a couple photos I wanted to share but I be darn if I can figure out how toinsert a pic on this format. It seems to want a url address vs letting me select from my photo albums?

The first three are of the lighthouse "Nubble" in Maine. One of my favorite places, when I was a kid we would visit every summer. Every time I go there, I will sit on the rocks and just stare at the light house, I have been known to do this for over an hour straight.

The last two are of a taffy shop next to the beach down the road from the lighthouse. I used to go there when I was a kid and just stare and stare in the window at the machine pulling taffy. The pics are not the best, it was hard to take a good pic because of the window and sun.

What a fabulous and upbeat idea for a thread! :) Thank you so much Johan.

Helen, I've been lucky enough to have seen the same places. They are gorgeous.

I've travelled so much in my life and I have many favourite places... but I must admit to loving the peace of winter places. I have posted many of those shots already.

I love leaving footprints. I know they disappear, but they remain in my memory forever (gods willing).

2232.JPG2235.JPGMarch 15, 2000 I had a brain hemorage I made a promise to myself if I got out of hosptial in one piece I would buy land on Lake champlain or in mountains well I bought a chunk of land in mtns and July 2001 I built this cabin with my son. I have since gotten into maple sugaring in the spring so I spend much of March up there and of course I spend much of fall hunting up there too!

Helen the picture of champlain looks like it was taken from Battery Park in Burlington next time you are in the area stop in and say hi.
Steve, It was few years back before I knew FC or I would have stopped in. We were camping at the campground right next to the Lake. Such a fun time and a beautiful city. Vermont is my favorite state!

My happy place is St.Kitts in the West Indies. Haven't been there in six years ( I opened this @@@@ retail store - what was I thinkin) but it's still home to me and always will be. The breezes and ocean mist on your face make you feel wonderful and the sunsets are AWESOME!

Pallette Lake Misc. 007.jpgPallette Lake 2010 235.jpgPallette Lake 2010 019.jpgPallette Lake 2010 040.jpgLake Superior Aug 2010 233.jpgLake Superior Aug 2010 054.jpgLake Superior Aug 2010 128.jpgPallette Lake 2010 104.jpgPallette Lake 2010 132.jpg

Somehow these got all mixed up......anyhoo, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, and 9th are photos of Pallette Lake in Northern Wisconsin where we go camping every summer. It's a beautiful little crystal clear lake that you have to hike or canoe into. There are only 6 campsites on the whole lake and we always luck out and get one of the two that have a perfect white sand beach. As much as the beauty of the place I love it for all the great family memories we have there.

The 5th, 6th, and 7th photos are of Lake Superior near the Porcupine Mountains. I LOVE Lake Superior! There's something about the big lake Gitche Gumee that speaks to my soul...no other place like it on earth.

Being as I am currently in San Antonio and not my SC home, I can only rely on many memories of one of my happy places.......The Botanical Gardens at Riverbanks Zoological Gardens. There was and is something mystical in walking around the walled garden, and then the zoo and aquarium, marveling at how diverse the life on our planet is.......how delicate, how fragile, how ethereal. To see the riotous colors of tulips en-mass, to be sheltered under the canopy of an old oak tree, to lean over a railing and feel the raspy tongue of a giraffe as you hold a handful of feed, To marvel at the delicate nature of a jellyfish in a glass cage, to imbibe the wonderful scent of geranium, rose, and honeysuckle, to see the wonderful thorny leaves of a cardone, To laugh at the antics of a clowning silverback gorilla, to hold out your outstretched arm with a little cup of nectar, while a colorful lorikeet balances on your arm, lapping at the sweet nectar. That's my happy place.
