Steve Cash, the gold-medal winning goalie for the U.S. Paralympic sled hockey team, has been nominated for Best Male Athlete with a Disability.
Cash is currently completing a summer internship at The Dow Chemical Co. in the public affairs department.
He said he was very excited to find out about his nomination last week.
"It's a once in a lifetime thing, opportunity," Cash said. "Right now I'm kind of nervous as to how it's going to turn out. I'm excited too."
During the 2010 Paralympic Games in Vancouver, Cash posted five shutouts in five games, leading Team USA to its second-ever Paralympic sled hockey gold.
He had amputation surgery on his right knee at age three after being diagnosed with cancer.
Cash is currently enrolled as a business administration major at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
The ESPY Awards honor the best in sports achievement and athletic success at all levels.
ESPY Award winners are chosen by fans via online voting.
