I found the post about a sweet pea pomander interesting... then today I get hit w/ a interesting pomander request.
A bride is interested in: White dendrobriums, stephanotis and 5 cymbidiums in a pomander. Has anyone used these flowers to make a pomander? If so, how do you construct it? The tulle puff ball with all the flowers glued on it? How long will it last?

Wowsers- that's gonna be a pricey pomander. Five cymbidiums, maybe 12-18 blooms of dendro, and the filler would be the steph. If this is the only steph in the wedding, we would use all 25 in that pomander. If not, I would use 10 or so. I would use the ribbon method CHR posted pics of a while ago, or the puff ball method - regardless, it's a glue job for sure.

Amy's Orchids had a gorgeous booth at the Northeast Floral Expo - she offers loose dendro blooms boxed - they looked scrumptious. You can puchase through a local wholesaler, not direct as far as I could tell. I'm sure if you contact her site, they could tell you which supplier she works with.

Good luck!

I agree. It is going to be a very expensive pomander! I also agree that Amy's orchids are delicious!
Good luck!

Tracy, you took the words out of mouth.....

now she wants roses

She has now agreed to using roses in the pomander. I warned her, the other the flowers are quite expensive. This is the only piece she wants the stephanotis, so yes, 25 would be $$ and I would plan on using all of them! I like the idea of using the roses with cymbidiums - easier to construct...
This girl is crazy about cymbidiums and dendrobriums, she wants them everywhere!

To me, it's the steph that will add all the cost, with less visual value. I'd rather make it from 5 cymbids, 12-18 dendro blossoms, or spray roses and a ribbon base, than any combo with steph.

good luck, again!

We use ribbon, not tulle, to make our pomanders and then glue the flowers in. Make ribbon bows, short loops, but full, and attach two together back to back. You can cut the loops or leave them, but we have decided we like the loops cut.
