Possible secretary's day idea

Another cute item from the container store--mini trash cans. Just came across these while browsing and thought they'd be cute for anyone who wants a novelty item for secretary's day!
Sad, around here most take secretary's to lunch and that's it. If you get that.:corky

Elmo's shop and mine are very close to each other, and she's right. We sell very few Secretary's Day items, even fewer for Boss's Day. As we all know, when the name was changed to Professional Administrative's Day, sales plummeted, and they've never recovered.

Cute container, though.

Secretaries day is not huge for us either, we are not in a big company area. I have found that targeting the smaller businesses and calling it secretary's day gets us about 100 orders. It is a nice little bump and it doesn't require much effort. Here is what we do:
1) place an arrangement in the coffee shop with business cards.
2) Visit BNI chapters with no florist and no gift basket members.
3) email or post card to the businesses listed in the small local charity phone books.
4) Sign on the sign board on the street in front of the shop.
5) Market to the people who sent last year.

Thanks Lisa for some new ideas. We are taking the bull by the horns...if you do not market it...they will NOT come.
Gone are the days where we could open the doors and they came in or called...we have to be more of a reminder to them.
We are ordering postcards from Shawn with our own local specials..I am getting 500 ...I could order less but I am getting them in early enough to 'walk" them out on all office orders over the month before, drop them off etc etc...will probably do a poster or two and put them in a Starbucks, Home Depot..that worked well at VD day..along with a sample...trying to hook up with a good Day Spa and work a deal with them for a day atht he spa as a "sweepstakes" concept....
No longer can we sit and wait or they will order from drop shippers...we all need to remind them that we are their source....

Yes, it is sad. It's a cute container, but I know I won't actually be ordering it because I maybe get a couple bouquets for sec day in this small town! I think my kids would actually like to get flowers in this--it matches their big trash cans in their rooms!

Hi Jenny, don't ya love the Container Store? IKEA is a great store too for stuff like that.

I know SD is a dead holiday, but it is one you have to work hard for.
A hand full of years ago we sent out some funky little themey bouquets with a post card we made, one side said I love my boss, he sent me this because he appreciates me.
The other side read My boss is a jerk, my florist sent me this, well at least someone appreciates me. Both sides said Happy Secretaries Day, and our company logo.

We sent them to the receptionists at about 20 firms in DC with the instructions to display at the reception desk for all to see. (Remember this is DC) One law firm called us and ordered 130. And there was a email that said thanks for the reminder. I replied and gave him 10% off for the order, that company turned out to be one of my largest corporate clients.

Think of SD as a door opener.

I have a Sandwich Board that we change the sign regularly. One side often has the Name Game. Anyway...I had written something about "Administrative Assistants Week" on it. I actually had 2 people come in thinking I was looking to hire!!! Now during that week it always says "Secretaries Week". Politically Correct be darned!

We are ordering postcards from Shawn with our own local specials..I am getting 500 ..

May I ask who Shawn is? Is he/she a flowerchat member who does printing? Sorry, don't meant to be nosy. I am just looking for a new printing company!
