I've been following a lot of non floral related design blogs recently and have been trying to predict how they will translate into the wedding world.

What do you think the next color trends will be?

My guess:

2006-2009 were about bright colors.

I think in 2010, we will see more neutral color palettes. I think a lot of metals will be working their way into weddings like antique gold, bronze, silver.

I think a beautiful combo that we'll start to see is a mix of cream, champagne, gold and a paler shade of dusty pink. Think Victorian.

I think bright green, white and black will be a strong combo.

Eggplant will be big as a base color.

Yellow will also be big especially matched with grey, white or black.

Colors that will go away:

chocolate brown, sage green, wine, hot pink, tiffany blue

Trends that will be dated:

chair covers, pick ups in dresses, tiaras, veils, mirrors, traditional fall color palettes

Pantone ( Leatrice Eismann ) and company is a great resource for color predictions. Also you will want to check out the predictions from the Color Marketing Group ( http://www.colormarketing.org/ )

Additionally, I find David's Bridal a great resource for color predictions as well. ( www.davidsbridal.com )

Pantone is the right site. They're apparently touting red this year for decor.

Ricky, yes that is who I was trying to remember. I knew Pantone from my printing years. I had thought there was another as well. Thanks..bookmarked!

Reds are very popular this side of the pond at the moment. Reds, claret, burgundy have been in since middle of last year and it seems like every bride I talk to says my bridesmaids are in one of the above. I'm fedup with the colour already. I hope it doesn't continue into 2010.

I have some brides booked in for 2010 and they all seem to be going purple for some reason.

Got to say though chair cover sales over here are just rocketing! no sign of decline... Table centres some are doing themselves but the ones that want me to do them seem to be going for the higher end ones.

There is'nt a pattern here yet but we do get a lot of black tie weddings.Decor and chair cover jobs are holding up too but prices are the biggest thing with all our brides now due to the recession .

As far as the chair covers go, I'm seeing brides not wanting to spend the money OR they rent new chairs (chivari on the high end, sleek wooden ones on the low end- some that rent for $6-7 a chair as compared to $3-4 per cover). The look of the traditional white chair cover w/ sash is going out of style at least what I'm seeing in wedding design blogs, magazines and hear from brides.

I just live in a vacuum here on cape cod. Still, I'm seeing a lot of Blue /ivory weddings - even stronger than last year and hot pink weddings. That's my trend...

The blues though are to be soothing and not too strong. Hot pink is to be elegantly outspoken...

Definitely seeing more metal containers. In the past, glass was the thing -- not so much for the future. Arrangements to be full, lush Old World-like...

As far as chair covers -- not in my territory. Strictly chivari girls.

Wedding gown - either clean and simple or 500 lbs of lace and busy, busy, busy...

Requests for cascading bouquets are increasing...

Mothers no longer want flowers to wear or carry... but bouts are plentiful...

Big, big this year - arbors! Everyone wants an arbor at the beach or arbor at the resort. Birch arbor though, not white trellis...

Green wedding. Although my brides will express a concern to keep things local - it's a fleeting thought...

Those are my trends - or not so trendish trends...

Hey Mocha...very good guess, at the Christmas World in Frankfort this month they showed strong metallics, coming forward.
Black will make a big come back.
Eggplant/Auburgene will continue to show as netural, and yellows are still an emerging color.
Pantone/Color Marketing are good sources for emerging color trends in both fashion and textile.
I feel in genreal there will be a somber appoarch to colors, even as we move into 2010-11, the economy will tell more as we move through 09.

I'm seeing all of the above as well. In 07/08', I might have done 4 cascades total. I have a ton of teardrops on the books for 09'. Most of the teardrops still do not have any greenery in them. I'm starting to get a few big cascades. I think bridal bouquets are going to be very elaborate in 2010.

Ditto the mothers.

Boutonnieres are getting more elaborate like little pieces of art (fun to make!)

Eco friendly requests are coming forth and I think will continue into 2010 (especially the request for buying local).

How silly of me! ;)

I, personally, get a kick out of mom and daughter discussing the subtleties of the shade the bride has picked. Okay- yes, I admit, it is important, but it can be really funny when they have no visual.

"No, it's more of a robin's egg."
"No, I'd definitely call it more tiffany."
"No way! It's AQUA!"

Has anyone else seen lots of coral colors?

I'm seeing the exact same thing. A LOT of my brides/clients are choosing chivari chairs or folding (wooden) chairs this year. Chair covers seem to be out in these parts. Some are still choosing them simply for cost sake, but would prefer something else. Colours... eggplant bigtime for 2009!!! Like 7 out of 10 have eggplant as a colour or accent. I'm seeing a definite return to neutrals for 2009 and 2010. And a return to lush, full, elaborate florals. Seeing lots of black and white decor this season with either: green and white flowers or bold reds. Lots of play with textures and tones to create full tables- napkins, chargers, lots of candles, full centerpieces... I was worried the economy would tighten some purse strings... Looks like it's creating more dreamers. People not willing to sacrifice their wedding dreams and I think now more than ever needing this elaborate event as some form of escapism!

:grovel::grovel:we never, ever, have brides who need to co-ordinate their "chair covers"..............and yes, Teal, Turquoise or whatever Davids' is calling that danged Aquamarine color this year.....Bring in the @@@@ dress and we'll see how close we can get.
:grovel::grovel:lol
Thank goodness the economy should bridle some of this foolishness in most areas. Good luck to you who are in an area that survives economic troubles.
