I talked to a FTD person (higher that a field rep) at the FTD Dallas Market Convention (?) to discuss "things" and he stated that he heard from 2 different sources that Proflowers had made an offer to purchase Teleflora from the Resnicks. I am sure just a "rumor", but just wondering if anybody else had heard this?

LOL - Wouldn't that be special.

No, you don't need florists ... but, we just purchased a network of 25,000 of them.

It's hard to see where the value is for PF in that. Let's see what those here who are smarter than I have to say.

It's hard to see where the value is for PF in that.

PF uses TF to send their same day orders so: PF same day order % being lost to TF justifies their buy out price... PLUS hidden agendas such as raising the % they squeeze out of their florist, I.E. Another 800flowers.

I see WS changing into 1800flowers/proflowers types of businesses, so I can see this happening. If PF buys out TF, their same day serice (TF) will be bigger and better than 1800flowers same day serivce (BloomNet). PF has to catch 800flowers in sales somehow. :)

Gooooooooo Capitalism! In 100 years, while we eat ourselves, there will be 10 corporations that own everything... they will meet and make the rules... AKA Big Brother! Sorry Georgie, you'll need to rename your book from 1984 to 2084. :)

*George rolls over in his grave and then does a flip*
Ummm how did he just do that?... the flip part.

Rumor

It doesn't fit the PF model. It's just not what they do, and frankly, proflowers has stated more than once that they have to branch out of flowers because the growth isn't there in the long run. On the other hand, I've seen dumber things happen.

On a related note, some rumor must be floating around. Anyone notice FTD's stock?

I'm confounded by FTD's stock run up, too. They must have found a buyer or at least floated the rumor well enough to cause the 'irrational exuberance'.

OTOH 1800 is getting hammered.

I think PF was indeed interested in the WS model but if a sale was pending, would TF have shown Kleweno the door so abruptly?

An FTD employee passing on rumors about a competitor... I'm shocked! ;)

If the rumor had legs, could that then cause a run in FTD's stock? Do you think stockholders know how many florists feel about PF? Maybe Phil K. was against any deal with PF. PF could break the same-day delivery wall they face with the purchase of TEL. But, would the Florist be willing to play ball?

What if, what if, what if...

- H.

I agree and DO think PF will continue to look at florists for same day fulfillment.

A couple years back, I spent many hours on the tele with the powers that be at PF and they are difinately interested in the "florist model". Many questions about different ways they could convince florists to "work with them". MY mantra then was that, since they are basically an OGDS'r that they would have to make their orders more profitable to the florist than the traditional WS order.

Perhaps they truely have a need for same day delivery these days and are thinking that buying TF (I doubt they have the cash, but I do KNOW they have access to it) would be more cost effective than continuing to use TF, but with the 20%+rebate I do not see how that could be, unless they like headaches. Perhaps PF is the reason for Klewano's departure, however here I doubt it as well, seemingly remembering he was temporary when installed in the position but that leaves the question of why not use the person they have now back then, since she has been witl Roll Intl since 1989.

As to FTD's stock....Hmmm......
