OK, so here in Missuagain it's property tax time... so I get this notice...

What the ******* does this mean??

Taxable Value went UP
Assessed Value went DOWN
State Equalized Value went DOWN

Say what? Huh?

Taxes paid, are based on the "Taxable Value"....

I'm pretty sure there will be a long line at the Board of Review hearings...

This just kills me. When I was looking at the building which I bought and to which I moved the shop, I was shown the tax bill for the previous year. It was for $1500+/-. When the bill came for this year, it was a bit over $6000. Why the increase? They do a reassessment when property is sold.

They do the same thing here Connie, enough to blow the budget!
Our tax bills came with a note that says, they know the property values have gone down, BUT just pay up in 2009- they will look at it in 2010!!!!

been there and done that for some of my dad's property. I think the whole state did some sort of reassessment last year.

The good news was my property taxes for my house went down.

The first politician that says we pay too much taxes is the person I am voting for.

Mark,

It because of Proposal A. When A went into effect we began to pay our property taxes with a cap. Which ever was lower: cost of living or taxable value. So your increases never "caught up" with the taxable value because the COA has been smaller than the increasing value of property.

So even tho now we are seeing a decrease in valuation, our "true" taxable value was not the consideration when paying.

Now if you purchased property during this time the taxable rate changed to reflect that price.

Stinks don't it??--- As I sit here today and pay a several thousand dollar property tax bill due on Monday. The taxes on my 1.2 acre store property is as much as my 20 acre farm.
