An October bride of mine emailed me this picture today. She wants to do this on her tables. 17 tables but I think we will do only 9 of these and 8 low flower centerpieces that also has the rose petals in the vase. I willbe using my trumpet vases that are about 24" tall.
Question - how many bunches of grass?
Thanks all!

Well, we all know I know nothing about fresh. That said...

When a customer calls and asks me these kinds of questions about silk, I tell them to measure the diameter of the opening of the vase first. If you have any kind of grass or grass like thing that you can use just as a measuring/mock up device, then measure how much space that bunch of grass takes up, multiply how much for the diameter of the vases, then multiply by total vases.

Of course a florist or an event person may have a much better method!!

Looks like they have wrapped a ti leaf around a piece of floral foam at he top and designed the grass out of the top. I would think that 3 bunches of this ornamental grass would be plenty.
I was trying to look that type up, no luck quickly.
Beargrass of course would not be tall enough, or have the impact.

If your supplier can get you extra long beargrass - The average blade length is 3 feet in length. Pampas grass may also work. Judging by the picture - I would estimate 1 full bunch of long beargrass per vase.

Mr T--
Do you remember a thread several weeks ago that included some place card, place card board ideas? Were those yours? Any ideas, another freind was looking for them, and I cannot seem to find the thread either.
Any help thanks.

I actually think that bear grass would give a nicer effect in this design as it would flow more, i would be tempted to use about 3-5 bunches in each vase and add beads or hypericum berries to thread so that some flows down like a waterfall... but thats just me...

Or find a homeowner or business and ask if you can selectivly prune.
Usually those with ornamental grasses never have just one :) It's usually many... many.. many

thanks for posting the pic Katie - we're participating in a Wedding Road Show next month, and will have our flowers/ideas represented at multiple locations. I'm running out of creative steam due to the annual March demands for the not so creative aspect of this biz .

Your pic helped me think a little more like the flower visionary I want to be - well at least for my little corner of the world. :)
