I was in a discount department store a few days ago and couldn't help but notice all the wailing coming out of the toy section. What could possibly be wrong besides lead tainted toys... parents should be wailing about this. Well... I peeked around the isle and these kids were just in a tizzy about not getting something they had seen on TV... and something about so and so is getting one and I'm not.

What seemed worse was the parents telling them "if you don't behave I'm going to slap you silly... so shut up!" Holy cow, I was going to say something but this made me shut up too. It was that serious intention of "shut up..." or I'm going to hurt you. So much for the Christmas spirit. What ever happened to saying... "Santa knows when you don't behave... so you better be nice...". Hey it worked for me when I was a kid.

Later in the evening I was flipping through 200 channels of nothing and noticed the type of commercials running. Have you ever noticed the intensity of focus towards your children. How about the commercials for adults... "blah... blah... blah... the nail that sticks out is the one that gets hammered... so why be the nail when you can be the hammer... Cadillac...". Wow... a direct hit on the ego trying to make you feel inadequate.

So... the snowball effect... your kids up in arms about what they are, or not getting... you, the parents feeling inadequate about everything you have... and then the manifestation of "shut up..." or I'm going to hurt you. Tra la la... jingle bells.. all is hell... laughing all the way...

Hmmm... should I sing about the Twelve Days of Christmas while I make you scream "don't taze me bro..." or should I try the Low Cal Cookie Recipe from Victoria? Sugar in your coffee or tea... would that be one or two lumps? Tis the season to be jolly... tra la la la laaaah... la la la laaah...

:hammer:

While I wouldn't want to see a child slapped silly, it would be nice if more parents kept their children from tearing through my shop, pulling things down and throwing the stuffed animals...all which the parent(s) completely, and I do mean completely, ignore(s), except for the one who glances at the child occasionally and then looks at me and smiles as if to say, "Isn't my child the cutest thing you've ever seen?"

(Grammar Watchers, how's that for a run-on sentence??)
