I caught a glimpse of the Rachel Ray show today. She pointed out that all of the "lovely holiday floral arrangements came from FTD". FTD gave everyone in the audience a $50 gift certificate. Too bad Rachel Ray endorsed them...I kinda liked her before that.

Thank goodness the woman has a fault at last. My husband is completely smitten with that cutie. Now he's got second thoughts.

Oh heck yeah - I had to go look and she looks like a, um, uh, ummm, real good cook.

that's it!

Everyday Cooking does not get renewed!

She is way too Perky.

ps. does anyone watch Giada in High Definition?

Wouldn't Rachel make a good spokesperson for FTD or flowers in general? She has a great personality, very upbeat, spunky, and certainly name recognition. Someone you can relate with. She'd have the guys sold anyway.

1800flowers.com must think celebrity chefs are the hot ticket, too.

Yes, celebrity chefs and flowers. This might not be the most obvious pairing, but it’s working for 1-800-Flowers.com, which just announced its Celebrity Program. The site has partnered with celebrity chefs including Paula Deen, Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa), Sam Godfrey, and PBS’ Steven Raichlen to create gift baskets.

There are a bunch of fun options for the gift baskets. You’ll find a Paula Deen one that includes a selection of essential Southern sauces and spices from Paula’s own brand. The basket features Paula Deen’s BBQ Sauce, Savannah Marinade, Vidalia Onion Peppercorn Dressing, Peach Pecan Dressing, House Seasoning (a blend used at The Lady and Sons, the Savannah restaurant Paula owns and operates with her two sons) and a yellow dish towel. If you go for the Deluxe assortment, you’ll also get a copy of Paula Deen Celebrates!.

PBS “Professor of Barbecue” Guru Steven Raichlen offers a barbecue themed basket (of course). His includes All-Purpose Barbecue Rub, Dessert Barbecue Rub, Ultimate Steak Barbecue Sauce, a bag of Beef Smoking Wood Chip Blend and an 18″ Sauce Mop with a removable head. He also has a Beer Can Chicken basket that includes a stainless steel Beer Can Chicken Roaster, Lemonade Barbecue Rub, a bag of Poultry Smoking Wood Chip Blend, and Steven’s sturdy, drop-forged Signature Meat Shears.

OMG...and noone invited Linnea to the party...think of what she could do to the marshmallow industry.....lol lol

What a missed opportunity...let's call FTD right now and get them working on this project...I can see it now..."Your own marshmallow basket delivered overnight by Fedup........this has great potential! Let's do a group blog!!!

Ok...I know..it's time for them to take my keyboard away from me and point me to my padded room....

Add one more reason to my list "Why I don't like Rachel Ray". :fdevil:

Actually, this is something I plan on doing once we get the grocery store shop set up. (we are developing a grocery store floral department at one of the local grocery stores that is part of a small chain of stores)

I was thinking along the lines of "Food, Flowers and Fesitivities for the Holidays" as a theme. I was really hoping to have this project up and running by now, but it appears we will miss Thanksgiving.

I am also thinking about doing in-store flower arranging demos, demos on decorating the holiday table, and demos on some other crafty-floral related projects that the consumer can do at home, i.e decorating Christmas garland. My idea is to let them see some ideas and then have the raw materials right there were they can purchase the raw products and assemble at home.

great ideas! Will you have "how to" ingredients available and then the finished product for those who "don't want to"?

Not bad ideas at all Joe. I think demos and "training sessions" are great ways to provide a service and products to your customers. Your customers essentially "get something for free," which is your time and expertise. We haven't set any up at the moment, but definitely want to start doing this in the future.

Make sure you market your events through your local newspaper. Most of the time, they are looking for events like this to fill up their calendar pages.

Also, take pictures at the event. If you can write a couple of words, it might get published in a small local community-focused paper.

She made A LOT of money saying that. An I would guess if you were her and they offered you the same amount of money everybody would be smiling and endorsing FTD.

Like Oprah, RR has a lot of clout in the world of selling stuff. FTD showed a remarkable amount of smarts using her... I like her by the way... and enjoy perky. :)

yes, loose materials or say loose flowers wrapped up ready to go.

Also, I am thinking along the lines of christmas garlands and artificial christmas wreaths etc. Maybe an instruction sheet on how to glue items to a bare christmas wreath. and other stuff.

I agree with Cheryl on the out of the box comment. Its nice to see someone take the Flower Shop to a different level. We all know that the industry is changing and it great that there are shops out there that are riding the wave of change with it. I've always been a big supporter of my local flower shop even before I was in the industry myself. Keep up the good work Joe and Good luck!
