If you had a bride that wanted this look with white dendrobium orchids and hydrangeas for a table of 6 (rather than 8) AND wanted to rent the containers AND wanted it not to be top heavy, how would you create this look and have the bottom portion connected to the top? The photo looks like they just set the hydrangeas on the table. I am considering using the effiel tower vases rather than the pilsner but I don't want my hydrangeas to wilt by using just foam at the bottom. I am also considering water tubing them before placement. Any other fabulous suggestions?

It looks to me like they slid a wreath form over the pilsner and had it rest on the foot to make the arrangements on the bottom...

Those are going to be huge on a table for 6....unless they will be using the bigger table with just less people...those are almost overwhelming for the table of 8...

They also have the oasis rings with the tray bottom....you can sit the top vase right on it...that would leave a whole lot of design at the hall...not sure you could deliver them made like that...don't know if I would want to attempt it...

...AND wanted it not to be top heavy, how would you create this look and have the bottom portion connected to the top?

I think if you were a guest in this room, these arrangements would not look top heavy. We are getting an aerial view with this photo. Therefore, I think you would see much more of a connection between the bottom flowers and the canopy.

They are beautiful. I love tall arrangements spilling out with flowers. I've used the oasis rings with the plastic tray bottom that Lori referred to. Just be careful because the tray often does not lay flat on the table but can have a slight warp to them which can reak havoc on the stability of a tall arrangement.

So please explain to a noob like myself how you get that look? Are those dendros glued to the ends of long taped wires? What exactly am I seeing in that pic? There seems to be one bloom on the end of long straight stems.

I agree. The aerial view makes it appear as if the arrangements are top heavy. At eye level, you would see the bottom part of the arrangement better and see that it balances the top portion.

What I would do is this.......Take your oasis ring.....( Syndicate sales has a version of the ring that is much more stable.....I prefer that one to oasis brand ) Set your eiffel tower vase in the center. - design your base decor - use crumpled cellow or marbles to fill the space inside the vase and use a gala bouquet holder ( The clear one ) to build the top design in. You should be able to modify the design to not have it look 'top-heavy' - Make sure your eiffel tower vase has a large enough mouth to allow the handle of the gala holder.....if not, then you will need to use a slimmer handle

As to how to get that extended orchid line - You do indeed use a long slender stick ( like the older style straight ting ting ) and either thread or glue your orchid bloom to the end of the stem. ( of course you soak your bloom well and use a proper anti-transpirant like Crowning Glory or other product )

Thanks for all the suggestions! I really appreciate it! This bride is only looking for about 6 of these so the work won't be that hard (as if I was doing 25).

The bride also didn't want them as large as the one in the picture so I thought I would definitely use the tower with a bouquet holder and use the dendrobiums full stem with a few blooms hand wired.

The MOB was concerned about guests knocking them over so I really love the idea of using the marbles.

I'll let you all know how this all develops!!!

What about setting the vase in a clear plastic design bowl and floating the hydrangeas directly in water - they would be happier and you wouldn't have to pay for foam. If they won't sit by themselves and stay in the bowl - make a grid with broken pieces of curly willow or clear tape.
You would have to put them together at the venue - no drop off and run, but if you have your bowls ready - it shouldn't take too long to drop the hydrangeas in. If you need to secure your curly willow - use a candle flame to heat a wire and poke holes around the rim of the plastic bowl and wire the curly willow in place on the ends.

To tie the hydrangeas into the top of the design - you could float hydrangea florets in the water inside the vase and then include hydrangea at the base of the top piece of the arangement or even glue florets to the stems of the dendros somewhere.

I think what makes this look top heavy is the big ball that the top has before the flowers cascade out. I would use a low-sided flat design dish with a half block of deluxe foam with rounded/beveled edges and sit it on top of the vase. I wouldn't cover my foam until all my long pieces of dendros are in and then only cover what is left showing so the base wouldn't look quite so heavy.

You know I have to hand it to you guys....(americans :usflag:)....you are always so outlandish in your designs with table arrangements its just GREAT! These aussie brides - well particulary where I am - would never in a million years have something like this on their tables....for a: they couldn't afford it and b: think it would be over the top and they want to keep it S.M.A.L.L !!
I would not have the foggiest on how to make these either smaller or simpler...as by looking at the photo perhaps a little more closely I could come up with my own ideas....but sorry I can't seem to help at this moment in time.

......then, if I ever get the chance.......I am going to have to come down there and blow your minds with some really outlandish american stuff.

Ok if you want this look at afford price to make money no eiffel towers, to many issues, get the 18 or 24. in clear riser with the 8 in on the bottom and the 6 to 8 on top, that will do it for you and cost way less than that ringy thin on the table, and you can reuse the, they come in lots of great colors as well, Sorry don't ahve the number with me right now, but will post in the AM,,,that is they way to go,,and much safer and nicer to use, if you don't want the pilner look,

Queen - Do you mean the party risers from American Floral Container ( Afcon ) ?

i believe these are blown french tulips, we use the trayed rings, be careful they often seperate from each other. loose, tubed hudrangias works well,

wedding centerpieces

We always put marbles or even fish gravel in the vases for weight, but we use the plastic base from syndicate and place lomey dishes on top glued, with another lomey dish inside the glued one, so they can de delivered individually...works like a charm... I'd add the dripping orchids on site for easier transport
