I have been using a combination of our access logs as well as Google Analytics. Using both of these sources I can come up with a reliable source of checking our referals.

Bounce rates are considered when a consumer clicks on a link to your front page and then leaves from the same point of entry. By using this number and checking the time that is spent on your site it is very easy to discover what links or referals work and which ones are junk.

My post regarding party pop was based on the info from both sources (acces logs and analytics and discovered this referal to be very active however showing a very high bounce rate.

I have also used to look at ppc as well as natural referals. Organic actually does work very well compare to ppc. PPC must be handeled very carefully since the average is 35% to 40% bounce rate. I mean if you spend $100 for ppc that menas $35 to $40 of it is most likely junk.

For those looking at starting a blog again I would recomend it HIGHLY without discolsing to much information.

This is also a great tool to use when you do confront a advertising source. For instantce Superpages up until this month was a very good source with a low bounce rate and actual conversion numbers to support. This month something has gone severly wrong. After reaching our budget for the month for the first time since i began using superpages as well as a record number of clicks. I have found that not only did my clicks never make it to the website but the few that showed a 45% bounce rate. I feel that for this month superpages has some explaining to do and I have contacted them to discuss the future of advertising with them.

Locate a flower shop is also still a very good choice considering the price and the bounce rate "very low". Unlike Local Flower Shop (sorry art) with very little traffic this year and a very high bounce rate.

Flowerchat is also a great souce. I see that many of you dig deep within the site and spend some serious time looking over the site (Thanks!!)

Building a website and working on your SEO work is just the first step. You need the tools in place to analize your traffic and determine quickly what works and what doesn't. Googles Analytics is awsome and since its free why not give it a try. Start by just adding the code to your front page. Once you feel comfortable you can start adding it to more of your pages to get a real since of what consumers are up to on your site and most importantly determine where is your best place to put your money.

Eric... you getting anything from www.gnoztik.com ??

From May 1st to yesterday I had 49 referrals from this site...still trying to figure out what it is...

You know that compnay is just trying to get your attention.

I have seen weird referals and when I check them out its usually monitor sorftware. Very smart way to get webmasters attention and great marketing tool.

I don't see anything at this point.

That makes sense... I guess...

They got my attention, but I still do not know what it is. I could not find a link to me on them anyplace...

Yep they just get your attention then you start looking around and perhaps you decide to try the service.

I do that as well to get someone's attention. I think it was rich that called me on a directory I was creating.

Here Is a another good example.

Yesturday i noticed a couple of refearls from the BBB Better Business Bureau website. Thought it was odd so I went to check it out. I noticed that they had updated our profile (lowered our raiting to an A and removed part of our URL information) Anyways today I had a call from them asking if I wanted to join again. They have called every week now and each time I have told them no.
