My favorite Canadian columnist hits the proverbial nail on the head again.
. . .His thoughts on how to stem the ebbing tide of our society.

http://archives.zinester.com/14807/111414.html

And my favorite quote from the article. . . .

To be able to draw a single flower, with full attention to all its colours and
parts, is to be lifted out of one’s tawdry self into a realm where good, truth,
and beauty still prevail. It is to recover joy.

as a society......

we have chosen to accept a lower standard with just about everything, and the "towering genius" reference, implies that ANYONE with a brain, and common sense CAN BE more ethical, more educated, and more spiritual, without actually changing anything in their lives!!
Isn't this a wonderful monologue that he writes??:soapbox:

Don't think he is implying that at all. . . .

Maybe we are not reading the same thing into this article. . .

An ebbing tide lowers all boats, and what strikes me as most grievous in the encroaching decadence of the world around me is the lowering of standards from bottom to top. It doesn’t take much to show leadership in anything today: the modestly intelligent appear towering geniuses; a bit of gratuitous kindness wins the reputation of a saint.
"Towering Geniuses" appear to be so even if only modestly intelligent.

He humbly includes himself in this category. . . .
Or to put this as coarsely as possible, “What can you say for a society in which a person like me can be presented as a champion of traditional values?”
He is suggesting change in getting back to God, or if that seems initially too far out there to some, he is suggesting getting back to some basic skills which may ultimately point a person back to a realization of what is really important and raise the level of joy in their lives.

hmmmmm........

sorry Glenn.....

wishful pragmatism is lost on non believers!!
