Now don't think I remember all this - but it is fun to think back!

I think I am showing my age...but I remember it all...

Except: "When a 57 Chevy was everyone's dream car.."
My dream car was a 57 MGA and it is still parked in my garage today...
and yes, it has been fully restored and I have owned it for years...

One other thought... "35 cent a gallon gasoline"
Actually gas was 13 cent in '57 moved to 19 cents by the mid '60's when I went to college...and gas "wars" would drop gas back to 15 to 16 cents (and people were upset that gas was too expenvise and they might have to start riding the bus again)

Patty, Thanks for the memories...
.

you know....

I read that thing, and it made me all nostalgic.
It ALL still makes perfect sense to me, and it's scary to think that kids were allowed to be kids, teachers could REALLY teach, and there seemed a gentle order to society!!

What are you doing, searches on Staten Island? :)

Actually Neal sent it to me from the next room and it was sent to him from Bikers for Christ located in California. Go figure!

A lot of Staten Island residents are originally from Brooklyn and in that age group 55-65.
There are a lot of "oldies" groups and parties around here.
For those of you who don't know, Staten Island is one of New York City's 5 boroughs which also include Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx (home of the NY Yankees) and Manhattan. It is (staten Island) the second largest in physical size, but the smallest one in population. Mostly residential and geographically very different from the other boroughs as we have lots of hills, including Todt Hill which is the highest point on the East coast of the US.
I originally lived in Manhattan, then moved to Brooklyn when I got married and after unsucessfully looking for a parking space for 3 years there, I moved to Staten Island. I love it here. Close enough to everything, yet far removed from all the "madness."

Staten Island...

is too far north....I'm going to visit Sher in Florida this week!
I have to say, I'm REALLY getting sick of winters around here...anything to get to someplace warmer...guess I'm just a weenie.
I think she has some "jobs" lined up for me...mentioned something about a "greeter"??

It's not too bad here.
We get maybe 1 or 2 big (12+ inches) snow storms each year.
Temps are almost never too cold.

This true story is a repeat but oh well. In 1983 we went on vacation including NYC. No one told us to NOT drive into Manhattan. We drove around looking for a parking place 'cuz we wanted to shop at Macy's (it was my anniversary and birthday that day) and also ride the subway just for fun. FINALLY we gave up and paid $14.00 to park in a parking garage for three hours. That was a lot of money for us in 1983 to blow on parking for three hours. We drove out of the city that night and slept on the beach in New Jersey around the boardwalk. Those were the days.
