So thanksgiving Day, hubby decided to remodel out kitchen and livingroom and now has expanded to the office...

He gutted both rooms back to the studs and made some structural repairs...he blueboarded and we had a guy come in a plaster. The living room is now complete. He gutted the kitchen the day before christmas and it is now 3/4ths complete...we are just waiting for countertops and he has to do woodwork and I have to paint and do the backsplash...In the kitchen we did new walls, new cabinets layout and actual cabinets, new tile floor and backsplash....

The reason the office is getting a makeover now is a long story...

My hubby is a big dungeons and dragons geek...he is also a network engineer and computer geek...In our office we had 5 huge book cases filled with books and miniatures and games...we also had two giant desks with 4 computers on them and many printers etc...

With all the dust that occured with the demo of two rooms of hoarsehair plaster, the room had to be dismantled to clean it...In realizing how much work that would be we decided to get a new rug and paint. He was going to just buil new bookcases, but we found som unfinished cabinets for a song and are going to put cabinets all around the room instead so it hides a whole lot of his stuff and stays looking nice...

We are very very tired and it is all taking its toll...oh by the way, this is all happening from a man that never picked up a hammer and built anything in his life...I am very proud of him...

You'll be amazed at what they can do !! (my hubby is a chainsaw carpenter and he did a great job with our living room).
Especially when they price out how much it would cost if it was all hired out!
Enjoy your new spaces!

I have pictures on facebook but will post them here also...soon

When it gets really cold up there..I heard it is about 9 degrees...yikes, ya'll can come down here and practive on my kitchen, bathrooms, poolside, garage, whatever his hearts desrie..anything would be better than me let loose with a hammer...at least we are only at 60 degrees...thats not minus either

Don't you just love the feeling of progress?

I'll bet you can't wait to cook in your new finished kitchen?!?!

I too am waiting for the pics! If I go looking in facebook, I'll get lost in the time vacuum and forget what I went in looking for. :hammer:

I saw a contest on one of the educational channels and they used chain saws to make the most outstanding art work...it was awesome...these big burley guys looked like they were going to hack away and just leave a stump and all of a sudden there was this gorgeous eagle, or dancing woman or something else unique...you are lucky. Mine almost took his hand off using a hammer one time..that was the end of that...but he did know how to make a phone call to the local repairman...having to pay really was less expensive than doing repairs to what he "tried" to do to "save" money!

ISn't it just fun?? I love the whole process. Especially when it's DONE!!

We had our own little triumph yesterday, the dryer broke and we figured it out that it was just the drum belt. So we were on a mission to fix it ourselves. We looked online and found out how to fix it. Voila! It's fixed and we saved a WHOLE lotta money!! wooohoo!!

Isn't the internet great!

My hubby has been able to fixed more things because he can find schematics online. He's a handy guy. I still can't justify the buying of more tools tho. How many electric drills do guys need? And he will not even relinquish one for use at the shop. I don't even WANT the deWalt cordless hand drill just a little plug in number would be OK>>>>
gee

Yeah I loved that we were able to see detailed illustrations of the dryer and go from there. I'm reminded of those commercials when I was very young about those fix it books you could buy from Time Life I think it was. Anyone remember those commercials??
Oh I know we have like 3 drills!! Do I have one here with me, no...he packed it in the POD! grrreat!!

I changed my best friends battery in her car on Friday. She called me frantic cause she had to give a CPR class the next day and she needed her car to transport the dummies. I told her I could do it for her and she didnt believe me (in fact, when I offered the help I really didnt know what i was offering either) But I googled it and it turned out to be way more easy than I would have thought. It was -25C which made things more difficult but from now on you can just call me MacGyver :>
