An update of what happened at the Maine Fall Design Show "Green Holidays" featuring Rene van Rems.....
I don't think I've had so much fun at a show in a great long time. Rene and his "driver" (one of our MSFGA members) first played a very great practical joke on our co-chairs, calling and saying Rene was stuck between planes and may not make it in until Saturday evening...big joke as we were outside (the co-chairs and I) while they were calling everyone trying to find out what was going on and Rene and Ned walk up the stairs.......can you say Gotcha!! Rene got a big kick out of it all and the co-chairs finally calmed down to get to work.
Rene greeted all the workers, looked over his staging, and blended in with the rest of the workers prepping for Saturday's pre-show prep.
Saturday's workshops went very well (I don't notice much due to my job as registration chair and treasurer)....the business workshop was intriguing and will lead to many more specialized business workshops.
The dinner on Saturday night was highlighted with a Yankee Swap...everyone brought a gift and they were exchanged. Rene chose a gift that ended up being a Candy Cane Man who danced. And he did dance, across tables to "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree".....so any of you attending a Rene show, look for the dancing Candy Cane Man....
Needless to say, it was a hoot!
Sunday's show - I will say that because I was in Registration land, that I saw very little but will say Rene was very upbeat regarding the economy and what our customer service means in these trying times. I'm sure Erlene can elaborate a bit more on the show. The designs I saw were very fresh and completely usable for any area and I did glean some pictures and some design pointers I certainly will use for the holiday to come.
Luckily I was able to come home with some very inexpensive magnolia foliage and pink mink protea to play with this week (from the auction following) and will also make mention that Transflora's gorgeous garden roses, hydrangea, and mini callas made a big impression on the workers and those who will take Rene's hands on class today!!
I just have to say, Rene was most personable, visiting with everyone who wanted to chat, mingled with the crowd during breaks and meals, and provided a very concise, important, and pleasing presentation for all who attended.

The show was a great show, Rhonda and everyone on the Maine State team did an awesome job pulling it all together.

Our own Rhonda was recipient of the Edfward D. Johnson award in recognition for services rendered for the benefit of the Maine State Florists' and Growers' Association and Maine floriculture.

Congrats on the show Rhonda and congrats on the award!

Congratulations Rhonda! Kudos on all your hard work and efforts.
And good on you Earlene for touting the accomplishments of your fellow florists.
