With Google placing a OneBox at the top of search results when a city name is used in the query, local search interest has really heated up.

One outstanding blog that focuses on local search is called Small Business SEM . (SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing). Written by Matt McGee, the blog includes not only great pearls of wisdom about search with articles such as 10 Likely Elements of Google Local's Search Algorithm and the Ultimate Guide to Building the Perfect Link, he includes some common sense marketing advice for businesses of all sizes. Have a look at Don't Know? Made A Mistake? Admit It and see what I mean. :>

Another outstanding read is Gray-Wolf's SEO Blog. The author, Michael Gray, recently did a series of interviews with notable search authorities focusing on the local scene. Links to the interviews can be found on this page. Pay close attention to the essential elements mentioned by nearly every interviewee. Great stuff.

Understanding Google Maps and Yahoo Local Search by Mike Blumenthal is another excellent source of information.

Happy reading! Now more than ever, it's important to have your site found in Google Local. They want to help users find real deal locals but we all have to do our part to help them find us. :)

You rule! Do you sleep?

The only way I can keep up with all this info is through my Google Reader. I read about it on Matt Cutt's blog and gave it a try. Best of all, it's fabulous and free.

No more checking news and blogs individually. The articles are fed right to my reader and I can either skim and move on, read in detail, or star to highlight for later use.

You'll need a Google account. Just an FYI, I don't stay logged in to that account all the time because it also includes Google's personalized search. Sometimes I want to see search results the way everyone else sees them. Sometimes I don't want G to know where I've been surfing, either. ;)

I've used RSS Bandit for my reader for a couple years. Also free, and easy to use.
