This may need to be moved to a different forum. I am contemplating building an online resume complete with pictures of the work I have done. It would not be e-commerce as it would not be a business but merely another location for my resume.

Would such a thing be feasible and worth doing ? Would you as potential employers refer to such a thing in your hiring processes?

I would like some feedback on this so I can know if a pictorial online resume is worth doing.

When I had an ad for a designer last year, I really liked seeing photos
of their work.
Spoke volumes!

I think that is a GREAT idea for employers...but, I wonder if it should be password protected...I probably am not saying correctly but it would be cool to provide a link for the employer to visit...and you could have several pages...I know how versatile you are in your background...so let's say you applied for a window or staging positon..then have a page of windows etc that you have done, ...or you apply for a wedding position or shop that specializes in them...then do a page/portfolio of special weddings you have done...
Just an idea...does that make sense? or appeal t anyone?
Of course I would want the password...lol

Yes, it's a great idea! I would love that an employee had an online portfolio. I would keep the resume portion as password protected (employment history, salary etc) but let the photos and an overview be wide open to online viewers. I would still suggest to have something printed for handing to potential employers in tandem with the site info.

On second thought, having a site kind of implies that you'll be expecting to have a fair amount of employers looking at your stuff over a long period of time, or that you're a professional job searcher ... Looking for permanent employment should be kind of a one time thing ... unless you're using it for freelance employers only.

Just another perspective, but it is overall a very good idea!

I think having an online photo gallery and a list of your credits, work experience, mission statement (include your work ethic too),etc. would be great but I wouldn't put an salary info, reason for leaving a position, etc. on the web, even with password protection.

It's a great way to show how multi dimensional you are and to also show possible employers that you are web savvy. You can also personalize it so much more than you can a printed resume. It's a great idea-have fun with it!

Rick, in this day and age it would speak volumes of your abilities in the computer and technology driven world...It would be impressive and would probably garner a position at a higher paying type of flowers shop...It would also give you a great deal of info when confronted with the dumbfounded look of, "how do I look at your resume?"....Might make you think twice before hiring on or wasting your time with a shop or two..I would definately look, heck I'm impressed when a florist even has a resume written....Ha!!!!

It would definitely help in the hiring process.

I've seen a few designer applicants with crappy web photo galleries, but if you set it up nicely it would be a really nice portfolio option.
