I have a bride that I am dealing with right now. She is very high end, wants elegant flowers for her wedding that is being held at a very high end location.
Anyways, she "saw something once" with ribbon disperced throughout a rose arrangement and she would like to have very similar in her centerpieces.
I asked her if she had pictures.....no. She bunched up the ribbon (satin ribbon which is 3/8" 9MM) and showed me how she wants the tiny loops throughout.
I am not crystal clear on what she is looking for and I can not seem to get it out of her any specifications of how she wants it....but she wants it. Arg.
Anyways, the centerpieces are a 4" opening, round and are going to have roses, fresia, maybe dendrobium orchids and stephanotis.
She handed me 200 yards of the ribbon and said that she has more if needed. LOL. I figured out I can sew it into the little loops that she is wanting and then pick it into the arrangements as I have left little tales here and there where I can do the picking.
So, my question is, has anyone done anything similar to this in the past? Any tips, photos etc would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks everyone!

I will do this for centerpieces once in a while - I just make a 3 loop thing with a tail - I staple it together just because I have a hard time holding onto it . I then just twist a wire around it and i have a cute tiny little 3 loop bow.

There is no need to sew anything !

I can make one and send it to you if you need me to .

Thanks for the tips! I was thinking I would drag this ribbon home and sew a few yards every night before bed LOL. If I can staple it, all the better as it will be less time consuming for sure.

Be careful,

to tape over the end of the ribbon so that water from the arrangement won't touch the ribbon (if it is some type of cloth) because it would wick up the moisture and then stain the ribbon .... and that would open up a new problem!

Am I missing something here?

You need loops of ribbon in a fresh flower arrangement correct?

Just take the ribbon make a loop (or two or three or however many you want) and floral tape it too a wood pick or wire.

Since it appears you have a very particular bride, you may want to make a demonstration bouquet for her, well in advance of the wedding, so she gives her approval to your bouquet and bows.

From your original post, you want to make sure that you and the bride are communicating properly between each other.

Yes, I most of the time will do up a little sample for the Bride to look at.
In this case I am going to for sure...

I am starting to wonder if I explained myself correctly, what I am needing to know are some ideas of styles of ribbon throughout the arrangement.
She wants the tiny loops, elegant and I just don't know if it should go around the starting from the edge and working its way to the center or just little loops through out the thing.
I want to make up a sample for the weekend but I am just not sure how I am going to go about it and was wondering if anyone had done anything to that effect before so I could take a look at pictures and get some ideas.

Yeah what Parie said.

We use that ribbon style some, but what we use a lot of the time is a ribbon wraped and pinned around a clean line clear vase. It's a sweet look.

did she give you true satin or the acetate variety. honestly a high quality sating and/or wired ribbon will give you a better look with much less headache.
midori ribbon is my fav ribbon, a little pricey but definitely worth it.

The Bride gave me unwired 100% polyester single faced satin. Yes it is more annoying and time consuming since it is so thin and fairly flimsy with no wireed egde.
The bride is coming in on Saturday to see a sample of my idea of how it will be placed and incorportated through out the arrangements. If she dosent like it, we will pull it out and she will show me what she is wanting. She is not leaving until we come to a decision LOL
I asked her if she had any photos of how she wants the ribbon placed, she said no, she thinks that she saw something like that once.
I will post up pictures of the sample early next week.

This is kind of off the topic, but is about difficult wedding consultations.

Yeah we've had Bride's mothers who were annoying and think of it as their day, but this one mother of the bride went so far as to bring HER dress to match the flowers to. lol WTH? lol

The bride said pink and chartreuse, the mom said yellow and red, the bride gave in. When the bride went outside to take a cell phone call, the mother said, my daughter has too much to worry about, that is why she was picking poor colors and I am changing them.

Thank god my wife has patience, the last time this happened a few years ago, I asked the mom, is this your wedding or your daughters? ……. I have been grounded from Mother’s of the bride am not allowed to do consultations any more with them. :)

The arrangements with the ribbons went extremely well.
People were commenting on the flowers all evening at the reception. My boyfriend and I attended, he knows the groom somewhat.
At first the Bride wanted something to the effects of the ribbon in loops running all through the arrangement. In the end she had decided that she would just like them in disperced in amongst the flowers with loops of three in each ribbon grouping.

I ended up having to sew the ribbon in its loops as stapling did not work at all and did not look all that neat. I then wired the ribbons on to picks and picked them in.

Thanks again for your help and suggestions!

Gorgeous! Thanks for letting us see the fruits of your labor.

One question.... why did you need to sew the ribbon instead of making multiple bows per design? Or did I mis-read?

The style of the ribbon in the arrangements changed a little from my original interpretation of what the Bride was looking for.

When I was looping, I tried just wrapping the wire around the finished three loops but that did not seem to work. The bride wanted three loops in a straight line and the ribbon just kept folding over and bunching up too much.

It was a double faced satin ribbon that was so thin that the staples just slid around and made it look messy and did not hold the loops right. (would have been so much easier on a different ribbon to have done that)

So, after I tried a few different ways, even got the glue gun out (I was trying to find the quickest way possible) then I sewed the loops, I wired the loops onto a bamboo skewer (as I found those were longer than the little wired picks I have and could be easily cut down a bit to size if need be) and picked them in.

You probably did not misread anything, it was quite late when I posted so I probably did not explain right (I am almost afraid to go back and read my post from late last night when I could hardly keep my eyes open let alone type and explain something! hehe)

This arrangement is beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

I just did a wedding where the bride wanted ribbon loops in her bouquet. I believe that the picture which she brought me was an old Teleflora design or similar to one in the TF Wedding Guide. It turned out beautifully, and it added more umph to the bouquet, a cascade of 12 roses. I used #9 sheer ribbon with monofilament edges, very easy and cost affective.

Very pretty ....

arrangements. I have been trying to picture them since you first started the forum. Nice job .... How many did you have to make?
