To make it light enough for him to carry you would prolly have to use a Styrofoam shape and glue the flowers on, cover the back with fabric if you don't want to put flowers all the way round.

This may not be the "right" way, but in the past, I've bought a pillow form from the fabric store (or if I can catch a really good deal on a sale decorative pillow...even if it's ugly). If necessary, glue a piece of satin over the back (if it isn't being covered) and pin a strip of double face satin to carry from. Beyond that I just cold glue the flower heads to the front.

I do like the styro idea, then you could just buy some batting (or save it from orchid boxes) and wrap the front with that so it's a little softer.

We made this last year for a "girl who got married on the farm".

We used a rectangular, 1" deep wicker basket. Used gro-grain ribbon on the outside of the basket. Used a wet, very thin piece of Oasis to fill the basket (had lined the basket with an opened cello corsage bag.) Fit the oasis in tight, and glued it into the basket with oasis glue).

We covered the Oasis with a very thin layer of sheet moss, and then plunked the heads of the button mums in short and tight. worked great! flowers stayed very fresh.

when we were all done with the flowers, we used a rafia "bow" in the center of the "pillow", with fake rings tied to it.

sorry, I do not have pics.
Hope this helps you. We have since done the same look usinging yellow buttons, and again using hydrangea.
