Hi to all my flowerchat friends.

I would appreciate some info, if any would like to share, about wet foam spheres. Does anyone have a set formula for the amount of roses that go in 3", 4.5", 6", and 8" orbs? I would probably be using 50-60cm roses.
I would so appreciate input. It would save me time and product trying to figure it all out. I have to make several.

Thanks!!!!

Cherie...not sure how you plan to use them.

We made some that were installed on a tall pedestal.

We cut a flat piece off the bottom of the orb, then glued a plastic dish so it would sit on the pedestal.

These are the large orbs, using large roses and I think we averaged 75 to 80 roses per orb.

We used the roses to divide the orb in half, then into quarters and then filled in...this keeps the orbs round and looking alike.

I think I would try to pick up some 30 cm from your wholesaler or flowerbuyer if you need quantity.....we used to call them "work roses" back in the old days (see reference in CHR's oldies thread)

Cherrie,

I bet Susan Ayala would know. I know she knows you, maybe you could give her a call....

Cherrie, we have done those last summer.

Here would be my recommendations:
small orb: At least 30 roses
Large orb: calculate 90-100 roses

I would also recommend you get the 30cm roses, not the 50cm... You'll be cutting the stems so short that it's not worth the extra money for the 50cm stems.

If you want to use less roses, go for a rose type that opens up large headed. For example, go for a white VENDELA as opposed to an AKITO rose.

I hope this helps!

Rose count mathematics

Hi Cherrie,

We teach the orb calculations in our advanced design course. Learning the equation will take you back to high school algebra - for once, those pesky equations are needed. As Kynda noted, we have the full explanation on our website: http://www.floraldesigninstitute.com/page004.11.02.90.02.htm

If you need more detail, feel free to give me a call or e-mail. I actually like doing the calculations.

Hi All,
I found out the answer to my question from Jim Hynd AIFD

For all who want to know.
if using a large headed rose, like versailles and cool water (which are the varieties I am using) a 6" sphere will take aprox 75 roses and an 8" sphere will take 100. He informed me that the smaller orbs - 4", just dry out too quickly.

Thanks to all who tried to help.

Kynda,

I took a whole month of her classes.. they were wonderful!
