On a side note.
Took the boy back to Michigan State last night.
Of course he has to live on the third floor - no elevators - so after lugging more stuff than I think will fit in his room, we had the opportunity to have a free dinner in the dorm cafeteria.
The dorm is the same dorm that my hubby and I lived in when we were at state. Last year it was closed for rehab, remodel and a new cafeteria. So I wanted to see what they had done to the old place. The Snyder-Phillips, Mason-Abbott dorms are styled in traditional, ivy-covered, “Collegiate Gothic Style” buildings with beautiful wood trims, Fireplaces in the lobby, etc
So off to the new Cafeteria and WOW. The joint was so upscale. Food stations of every imaginable type from American, Asian, burgers and fries, specialty sandwiches, pizzas, a loaded salad station (with spinach and romaine lettuce - no iceberg anywhere) that included freshly grilled chicken. Several types of soups and of course a large selection of deserts that include the traditional soft service and now hard pack ice cream.
My daughter and I opted for the London broil with herb potatoes and stir fry veggie medley. the London broil had a mushroom sauce that was very tasty.
The biggest kicker is the place is open from 7am to midnight, 7 days a week. Man your "freshman 15" would have easily become "freshman 50" at that place.
A friend came to help with the move in and he ate with us. He lives in another dorm and he was blown away - his dorm cafe is nothing like this. I was amused because when I was a student HIS cafeteria was the place to eat!
how times change.
The sons birthday is Sept 10, I told him we would come down on Sept 9 and take him to dinner -maybe the cafeteria instead of the Peanut Barrell....
