Six Flags announced today that they will DROP their admission prices by $10.00 per person for this summer travel season...Last year $49.95...this year $39.95...(still seems high to me).

I wonder if we'll see more of this type of change based on gas prices in the states that rely on tourism to fund their stuff...?

I am located in SE CT and our area depends heavily on tourism. There have been several articles about this in our local newpaper. Apparently, the feeling is that people can't afford to spend 2 weeks traveling a great distance on vacation, however they will still use their time but spend it closer to home. More day trips, more competition (incentives to come visit) destinations so the people local to the attraction will come for a visit. For example, last year, Mystic Aquarium offered a pay the entrance fee for one day and get the next day as well.

I am thinking beaches will be pretty popular as well - they are rather affordable.

I think we will see more of it. It was a smart move on their part. It's going to be tough on families this year to afford any kind of vacation. It's a luxury and will be one of the first things on the list to not do, flowers are also a luxury item.

As it applies to flower shops, have any of you thought about lowering prices? I know personally that I have my prices right where they need to be to make a profit. I never have a sale unless I am trying to completely get rid of a gift line that didn't sell well.

I might have to rethink that and have more "cash and carry" specials. I'm afraid it could be a long slow summer.

Cash and carry may just be a necessity if proper signage and adverts are in place. We do it and at a guess 40-50% upgrade when they see our selection, which is of course a bonus. Get them in the store to experience what you offer ! The rest is easy !
