Hi! My name is Jennifer, and I'm a special event florist. My business is called Snapdragon Studio, and I've been in business formally for about a year... although I've been doing weddings and special event flowers for 10 years or so. I don't have any formal floral training, but I have a degree in Graphic Design and have been working in the creative industry for almost 20 years. The majority of my floral design and knowledge is self-taught. I've been looking for a way to connect with other people in the florist industry, and I'm especially hoping to gain some technical knowledge from others here. I believe my fresh outlook on floral design can be a benefit to those on this board.

Hi, thanks for your interest in our community. You mentioned that you have a studio on your property, is it a retail studio? Do you collect/pay sales tax? Are you properly licensed with your town? Answering these additional questions will help the membership get to know you better.

Thanks for the questions. My studio is not a retail space... Almost all of my business is delivered for special events. I am licensed with the state of Washington as a Sole Proprieter. I have also applied for a Nursery license (required by the state of WA when selling live plants or cut flowers), which should be in place this week.

I collect and pay sales tax to Washington state, and issue myself a 1099 and pay income taxes on my profits.

I also belong to a group of wedding professionals in Portland called the Nortwest Wedding Professionals Network. http://www.nwwpnetwork.com/ and I'm featured on their consumer site http://www.nwwedpro.com

I don't mind at all! I tried to come up with a name that sort of captured the essence and style of my work. I'm not a formally trained florist, and I do mostly hand-tied bouquets and fresh-cut arrangements... all with a "northwest" sort of natural feel. Anyway, Snapdragons are so unassuming and almost casual, and they're one of my favorite flowers, so I came up with Snapdragon Studio.

Also, I was a marketing specialist in my former life, and the alliteration of Snapdragon Studio felt good to me.

Oh, duh. :boggles: I wondered why the curiosity...

My last name obviously isn't visible... Fish :eek:) I couldn't see any other user names when I registered so I wasn't sure if I should use my business name or something else! If I had it to do over I would be Snapdragon Studio...
