Customer complaint via email about a $35 arrangement:

"I ordered flowers today to be delivered to my wife. I have attached a photo of the flowers that my wife received. I must say I am extremely dissatisfied with the bouquet. For the amount of money that I spent I feel these are not the quality that I was expecting. I could have bought a similar bouquet at Giant Eagle (grocery store) for $10 dollars. I am not pleased at all and figured I would give you the chance to make it right. If you will not that is fine, I will take my money elsewhere in the future."

His picture looks as though it was taken from the side in the front seat of a car. Trust me that looked much bigger from the front.

First of all, I am sorry you were disappointed with the arrangement. When we get a call from a new customer, I like to refer them to our websites to see size and pricing information.

That said, I do remember the vase we did for your wife. There were lots of long lasting flowers, in addition to some roses. I would like to speak to my designer about this further. Unfortunately, she is off today; (Saturday) however, I did leave her a message to call the shop this weekend.

Again, I apologize that you were not pleased. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Just let me know whether you prefer a phone call at work or an email. Thanks.

Customer replied that he preferred email since he's at work. My reply....

I spoke with the designer regarding your order. The only instructions she received were that your wife likes daisies. I wasn't sure from your email, but it sounded as though you are questioning our pricing.

Our designer, Pat, used a $5 vase and included 1 stem of spray roses- $4.00, 4 stems of chrysanthemums - $8.00 (some of which were daisies), 3 stems of alstroemeria- $3.00, 2 stems of spray daisy asters - $4.00, variegated pittisporum (a green) -$2.00 and a butterfly - $1.00. There was $7.00 labor added as well. That actually totals $34.00, so we did miss the mark by $1.00. Prices in our business fluctuate daily, so it's not unusual to go over or under a bit on an arrangement.

Our average order, not including delivery, is $50.00. The arrangement we designed actually looked big for the $35.00 price, due to the fact that most were inexpensive flowers. In the future, I would recommend speaking directly to the designer; as again, her only instructions were that your wife likes daisies.

I hope this explanation helps. We can discuss this further via phone or email, if you like.

Here's is his response..........are you ready??

Thanks for the explanation. I have given corsages to dates at my high school dance that were bigger than the bouquet my wife received. Lesson learned I guess.

I think his wife would reply, that the little thingy above his testicles are somewhat lacking in size as well...what a suck!!.....He's very brave, when using email isn't he??

I don't know if there is even a way you COULD respond to that one without ending up on the bad end. I think I would simply offer a refund or replacement and let it go from there. Clearly there is going to be no way to win with this guy, so I don't think it would be worth trying.

Or perhaps, invite him IN to the shop to select from a range of similar priced bouquets for his replacement. Make sure all prices are legible and seen clearly on your arrangements if he does come in. He might decide he likes that 75.00 or 80.00 vase better and shell out the additional bucks.

I think he's exagerating just a bit that he could get that arrangement for $10, really? I don't think so. If he wanted all daisies it might be larger.

What a tool. I wouldn't have offered him a refund unless he wanted to bring the arrangement back within 24 hours. Apparently, he hasn't bought flowers since 1980 (his high school dances). Back then, gas was less than a $1 and so was bread. Get real.
