I am a very dedicated flower shop manager.

BUT ...........

Last night was the first time in a LONG time that I had a night out on the town. I ate a a fancy restaurant, I saw an "off Broadway" type show called Forever Plaid, and then I went and a had cocktails, Well I had cocktails the whole time, just went and had more. I spent time with friends and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

The point is I think a lot of us here are so wrapped up in being the best florists/managers/flower shop employees we can be that it's easy to forget that there is more to life than our respective flower shops.

SO I CHALLENGE ALL OF YOU
to go do something that has nothing to do with work, and don't even bring up the subject of work and have a good time.

Try it, I think you'll like it!!

Shannon... well done for discovering something many never do. :)

Deserving of a green dot my dear.

Today my husband and I were going to take a ferry around Portland Harbor but there was a misprint on their site and the times for today's schedule didn't work for us.

We ended up playing tourist in our own city and going on a train ride at the Maine Narrow Gauge Railway Museum.

A perfect afternoon :)

Love Maine will be visiting this summer really want to do the island of shoals too.We all love what we do so yes it is easy to get lost in our work but just think of all the people that hate what they do we are very fortunate to get paid for doing what we love.

Nice going Shannon....a well deserved party needed to be had! Probably now that you have experienced this you might want to try that once a month...or every fortnight??
I have discovered at the tender age that I am that life is what you make it...and you are never too old or too young to laugh and take time off from who you 'normally' are!

Go Shannon, cheers to you and hope you can make it a regular occurance.

I think us passionate flowers are very fortunate to be in jobs we love to do, and like Brad said many in the world are not so fortunate. You are so right, we all need time away, even if we love to live, eat, breath flowers.
Work to live, not live to work...(and party till you drop...ok not as often anymore, recovery takes longer at this age):drunk:

My afternoon was spent playing pollypockets and having great long kip along with my 4 year old, bliss!

My daughter is doing more than smelling the roses... she's following her passion and enjoying every bite, swallow, volcano, along the way.

For me, when I run away from home and work, I love to walk in the wood... with eyes and ears wide open.

Funny Shannon, you must have been writing your thread as I was talking to my husband about just that thing.
We're going to take a trip 'down east' next weekend. We have a favorite island we go to by Ferry. Take our bikes, collect rocks and beach glass from our favorite beach, have a nice picnic. Just have a nice relaxing day together...

Jenny,
How far east are you coming! If you are coming to the Rock be sure to let us know! Lots of rocks on our beaches :>

Hope to see you.....

Rock on......

Does fishing count? ;)

BTW, Steve we (3 of us) limited out on Walleye, all about 22-24" and 2 18's... a few Small Mouth Bass (put back) and a great day all around...

Thanks Shannon! You're right we need to take time for ourselves sometimes. So yesterday not only did I take a long walk with my golden retriever down to our locks and boardwalk (We have a beautiful waterfront) but I also went for a horseback ride. First time I've taken my old guy out this year. Geez, it felt great! By the way how did you like Forever Plaid. Isn't it one of the most enjoyable plays! Love the Ed Sullivan skit! Gudrun

I love fishing!! Except of the putting the worm on the hook part. Oh and the taking the fish off part. My hubby does that for me!! Then I usually feel sorry for the fish and make my hubby throw it back. It's my fish and I can do what I want with it!!

I managed a 3 day weekend coming up and there's a hot rod show going on. My friend's hubby is a collector and we get to ride around town, do all the fair type food, get some sun and just chill. Going to be lots and lots of awesome cars strutting their stuff for over 2 days. Can't wait, it's been tense with one girl out sick for the last few weeks, the only thing that has saved us is that it's been a bit slow from time to time with summer and all.

Just got back from the beautiful Cotswolds. This is only half hour drive from me, but didnt know what wonders were on my own doorstep !! Its was wonderful scenery, lakes, watersports, boating etc. Fishing for my other half and son.... personally would rather watch paint dry. BUt i took a book and bottle wine and sat and watch them catch NOTHING !! :)

Seeing the wonder in the smallest details

What do you appreciate and what do you ignore? Is a sunrise any less special because its image wouldn't make it on a magazine cover? Is any day less precious because, in your mind, "nothing special" happened? For some reason, it's hard to be impressed with anything these days. Driving a car is a source of strain instead of wonder. The internet is already old news. Quick--when was the last time you paid attention to a space shuttle flight? Remember when that was all people could talk about? Once you take something for granted, you also take the life out of it. When nothing is "special," boredom and gloom aren't far behind. Look around where you're sitting right now, and try to see it for the first time, like a child would. Think about the human potential that created the stuff in the room. Think about the miracles of nature right outside your window. Think about how amazing it is that you're even here to see it.

The week of July 4, my 25 year-old twins are going to the mountains of NC with my husband and me. Not a hot tourist spot, but we don't care. We plan to relax, play cards and other games, eat, sleep, and enjoy each other's company. The most wonderful part of this is that the girls were the ones who requested this kind of vacation with us.

I'm taking this afternoon off to bake bread.

I can't think of a better reason to go then Connie.....they are ALWAYS gonna be your twins, you WON'T always be able to go into the high country!!
