Preface: I like Teleflora because they are working at serving retail flower shops. this is not part of the subject but for context.

Today, someone from tf called me for coupon advertsing for Christmas.

I told him no, because I am sick of the auto-renewals. He said he can fix that so it never happens again. I don't care.

I don't want tf coupons this year.

Salesperson is persistent. He says it can be used for all of the TF products. I told him I have the kincaid thing and that is all I have so I have no need for the coupons.

He persists.....

He says well you could use those coupons for other NON TF items in your store and adds "I won't tell".

My response is " I don't care." No.

He persists and continues on about the TF products and using it for customers walking in the store. It is a 10 minute litany of nonsense.

I have to admire his persistence. He kept on......

Finally, he says, well (this is a paraphrase but i will use quotes) "You could advertise the coupons and then Dove the order to your competitor so you make 20 pct commission on an outgoing order."

aaahhhh?

huhh?????

I asked him to repeat that last sentece. He did.

Bear with me on my mind-set. Many of you know my position on incoming wire business, if I can cover the variable costs and some of my fixed costs I will accept those orders.

However,

I am not going to send my customers' orders to my competitor so she can fill the GD TF order!!!!!!!!

Why on earth would I be so stupid to allow my competitor to fill an order for me and have her Name and address on that card?

I asked this guy, "are you telling me to be an Order Gatherer?" He basically said .... why not?.

check and see if he's pulling your OTHER leg as well!!
This is where stupid florists get "hooked" all the time, and, seeing as you ARE NOT, and KNOW when to say NO, it actually "surprises" me a little, the extent to which this TF sales rep is willing to go!
Maybe, for a change, LOTTSA REAL FLORISTS are saying "NO"!!

I think more florists are saying no...The fact that 4 weeks before any holiday they are calling saying if your sold out of x y or z, we can get it right out. Yeah right what happened to 6 months ago you were selling out quickly..Lyin bast@rds.

ANd after 2 no, I would have hung up on them......
First of all you can't accept and use a coupon on other product because it is illegal. You have to prove that you had the product in your store not to exceed that amount in coupons.....

It sounds like a desperation move to try and get the florists that "used" to play their game, back into the game.

What that rep said, sounds kind of like a Hail-Mary without any forethought and *if* it's the common story being told to florists, they do indeed sound desperate.

Joe, you should have asked for his employee umber, then after he said it the second time, you could have hinted that you got it recorded that time, and would be sending in a copy ;)

Luc, the advertising sales guy actually told me to use the coupons for other product.

LOL. Here i am sitting at the order desk this morning at 6:30 am and I get a gen message from TF remininding me not to forget to participate in the Christmas coupon program.

Oh no, he kept telling me that he was recording the conversation.

My main problem was the auto-renew part of these coop ads and coupons. I hate that.

It's a tf coupon...they are good on any TF products that you have or wired out to another florist. They can also be used for any product. They will never check. You can submit them even if you didn't opt in, now that is the real secret...Accept away and don't pay a dime....

They (TF) wouldn't mind it one tiny bit.

Think about it.

They'd love it.
