I showed this to a couple and they loved the idea. I will rent a 8 inch low ceramic bowl and will use 3 mature Black Magic Rose for their wedding centerpieces. Although I will add various other vases with candles, I factored in a $35 price. I think it is a good look for $1.95 The only thing that we will have to do is to create these on site, unless I can devise a way to secure the petals like shaving a oasis foam insert so that the petals rest upon them. If I were using a clear glass vase then I would definitely have to construct on site.

Just to show, less is more. This is great for any event where there isn't the money to wow guest on table pieces.Would look more beautiful than just a candle sitting in the middle of table. I'm going to play around with this.:poke:
Thanks for the link. Some one ask a while back for a 25.00 center piece... There you go.

You might try using a mesh as a base and Oasis floral glue to glue the petals in place. That way, when finished, it will be all one piece. Don't know if the glue would hold under water but might if allowed to set before placing in water.

Rock on............................

This is not anything new - We old-timers have been doing Duchess Roses for years.....same construction as a Glamelia.

You take a cardboard circle, make a low mound of cotton batting, cover it with a layer of net or tulle, then you use oasis adhesive to glue on your first rose in center, then you simply add row upon row of petals till the mound is covered......then spray well with an ANTI-TRANSPIRANT - like Crowning Glory ( a floral sealant ) and then you can take glue and attach it to a foam base in your container.

In essence, That is what Preston is showing......just an alternative method to the old reliable Duchess Rose.

Rick, we've used this method, but I'm wondering how many days in advance they could be done? I have an October wedding which would require lots and lots of these, and I'd like to make them up as early as possible.

If you do these too far in advance to you run the risk of the rose petals turning mushy and opaque?

I think the simplicity and the low labour of this design makes it really sellable, especially for those brides who were "going to do it themselves", its a good cheap design that i am sure they would go for instead of doing that.

I think the labour of the cardboard version would up the cost imho.

I'm fretting about the necessity of doing these on site when many of them are required and time is short.

I love it - Duchess Roses for Dummies - simple and beautiful, without the construction challenges that can occur with a "constructed" Duchess Rose.

I attempted to make one of these after I watched the video and unless they are made on site I would say it is imperative to glue them because the petals float around once you move the bowl. It was also more time consumming then I had originally thought because the petals were floating around as I was layering them, kinda annoying.

Ok, dumb question... couldn't you glue the petals to oasis and then soak it afterward? Does Oasis glue hold when wet? I am going to play around with this idea today (since the customers in my area have forgotten that Easter is this Sunday).

Great find Thom!!!!! I love the budget friendly appeal...I also like them to use at the base of a tall arrangement.

These would be awesome for my brothers wedding labor day weekend...Now if I wasn't in the wedding, I could probably pull it off...That's too bad...I think the stress of making sure they get there in one piece and all together would prove to be that end of me...I think I will pass, but very pretty and definately Jen's style..

hmm, I thought I posted pictures yesterday...
I did this with some extra white lilies (two weeks old mind you) in an 8" glass bowl with gems in the bottom. When I moved it around from room to room, they didn't move too much. Definitely would hold in place probably with the water pearls or crystals (hmm will have to try it with those too) I think my table is tilting??

I was playing with a huge very mature Esperance Rose this morning. It took 2 for a 8" low glass cylinder. It took me all of 5 minutes to do. I picked it up and gave it a shake of or two and it tumbled around. So I conclude this idea although cheap has to be done on site, if you want to float petals. I still think it can be done on a bead of oasis. I will try it later.

I have done the Preston Bailey rose before....love the lilly. How many lillies
did it take to do this bowl?

I think it was two stems with 4 blooms on each but the dish was an 8" flat glass bowl so it was quite large. The lilies were quite old and had been sitting out for days in the shop and it still lasted over 5 days sitting out in the water. No translucense on the lily bottoms when I finally threw it away (smelled wonderful but my sinuses hated it)
