I was cleaning out my desk at work today and found an old flyer from Rio Roses. We were a "retail power partner" until they launched their website, and then we cancelled our weekly order.

Anyone hear how the order-gathering website is doing? I'm just curious, as I really liked their ideas before they decided to go into competition with me.

Welcome to FlowerChat....

As far as Rio goes, last I heard the retail B2C website was more of a failure than a success with little to no action going on. Mostly these days Rio is trying to sell through FTD, both the florists and consumers alike.

I too was a Rio "Power Partner" and tried and tried for a couple years to tell them what would happen to their model once they opened the web deal. It would fail!

Along with that they would P_O many "retail partners" that got them going in the first place which is what happened in many cases. I dropped them in a hurry, as did many florists I know. Sure there are some that stuck with them, but alas, greed over ruled ethics and *partnerships* that could have helped them build a powerhouse in the rose business.

Again, welcome to Flower Chat! Rio had a lot of good things going for them. Then greed overcame it all.

I've been around a while, but by the time I get to my own computer I'm usually too tired to do anything but lurk!

But I've gotten some great ideas and some really big smiles from this board.

Shame about Rio. We used them the Valentines day before the website showed up and the quality was good. The people that came in to guarantee the quality really seemed to believe in the program at the time. I still buy them, but the roses have definitley gone downhill.

Question would be...Why do you still buy them then?

They started going downhill 2-3 years ago...when they out sold their own growth, and had to buy off-farm stock to fill in.

Get a hold of Schodowski, he's a member here, the Santa Paula Freedoms he's selling today, put Rio's to shame!

fair question! We still buy from the wholesaler....good & LONG relationship, great prices. Our standing order is with him, and he gives us the best of what comes in.

Sometimes its Equiflor, most times it's not. It's a shame. they were the biggest and boldest for a while.
