I have glued stephanotis onto a comb with ruscus , but the bride wants just the stems for the hair dresser to pin in her hair.

I was just going to stem them and add a touch of oasis adhesive and maybe cut the stems shorter? The artif. stems are so long I would hope the hairdresser has wire cutters!

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The boxed stephanotis stems are too stiff for use in the hair IMO. You can hand wire them with 26 gauge wire. Tape a 1" wide section of the wire in white, then fold the wire in half at that point. The tape will conceal the wire in the throat and will help prevent it from pulling through the bloom base.

Feed both ends of the wire down the throat and guide them to pierce opposite sides of the stem (be sure to leave the stem ON!). Pull the loose wire ends gently until the white taped portion is snugly down inside the throat. Tape the wires with the stem under the flower base using a tape color that closely matches the bride's hair.

Trim the taped wire to appox. 3" and bend the bottom of the stem gently up. This will create a hook that will help anchor the flower in the hair.

Bobby pins added by the hairdresser will further assure a firm hold.

The only thing I do differently than Cathy with stephanotis is instead of white floratape wrapping the wire......I use a bit of wet cotton twisted around the wire. Helps to cushion the bloom and helps to provide a bit of moisture. I also tuck a bit of wet cotton around the green stem end of the stephanotis before I tape it.

I also dip stephanotis in a mix of water and clear wax.
