Just wondering...

Our store was designed by my Father, Grandfather and a prominent local architect, back in 1955. It was built as a floral and gift shop originally.

Just wondering how many others were too...

hey mark...

you KNOW the FIRST THING that jumps out at me??
the square, modular, "Scandinavian" look can EASILY be changed with those quarter rounded overhead backlit "awnings

Check your email...too big to post here...but I am onto it for spring!

Mark, You are fortunate to have such a gigantic building! You must be the "King of Florists" in your city!

Founded in 1907

Our shop was founded by our great grandfather in 1907. The original business was a plant and seed store. The building is kept to resemble the original architecture, as are most on our street. Very sentimental to us, sometime to a fault ($$$).

I know the feeling :)

Our shop was founded in 1898 by my great-great-grandfather. We're still at the same address, in a building by great-grandfather built in 1929. Upkeep is a b@@@@ but it sure has a lot of history. Sentimentality = $$$

Same boat here

Being that we have a flat roof, resulted in a 30K outlay 2 years ago for new rubber and installation...

Last year 10K in electrical, mostly to add plugs where there were none, and go form 30 breakers to over 100 to aleviate the cobble job that resulted in years of adding things here and there...

Cool thing, is our building is the first (only?) retail building designed by Alden B Dow AIA, and will be going on the National Register next year.

Our store was originally located on Huron St., in the late 50s the store/greenhouse was sold to make way for the International Bridge. Our store was built on Queen St. where the shop has been situated ever since. This building has always been a flower shop and yes, like the others - it costs us but it has its perks too. I'll try and take a picture of the shop exterior and post it.

1854

our building was built in 1854 and was a methodist chruch , it was moved to its preent location in later 1800's. It was a hospital, school and garage(the man that ran the garage in noted in ripley's beleive it or not as the only man then to own a garage and not have a drivers licsense or own a car. There was a barber shop and laundry mat and pool hall here (which i remember). We have one of the original billyard tables up in our home which is a brunswick limited addition, they had to bring it in by crane. We purchased the building almost 5 years ago , my husband has butcher shop on one side and my shop on the other, each store is approx 1400 square feet. We live over top and as a commercial building it is one of a very few free standing building and we have our own parking lot which will hold as many as 10 vehicles. Our living quarters are over 2000 sq ft. Best move we ever made. Joanne
