Last night I was trying to find a shop in St. John's that might have been open after hours (funeral order). I tried them all to no avail, however, one did answer, Howse of Flowers (I think that's the name). At any rate I didn't give the order because I was speaking with some call centre in the States (red flag). Is this a legitimate shop? I don't have them circled in the directory anyway (Sunnybrae is preferred), but I was in a fix trying to help a customer.

Thanks guys.

They are a multi-generation florist, pretty decent outfit. I spent a few days in their shop, and I know Robert and his team place a priority on quality and service.

Hi V,
I don't believe there is anything open after normal hours. Howse used to have their phones answered by FAH???

What time Victoria, I have my calls forwarded to the house and I answer it til I go to bed, and I was home all night. "Howse" still does have his phone answered by FAH. Also Holland Nurseries branch store in the Avalon Mall is open til 10 , although not sure if they deliver after 5, but they are open 6 nights a week.

Hi Brian... It was almost nine your time. I let the phone ring about 8 times before I moved on.

As for Howse, I wasn't sure about the "Answer Centre" thing as the accent was decidedly not from Nfld. ;) Besides I would much rather deal with someone I "know".

uh V,
Accent! What Accent? :)
The dialects and accents here reflect the old country; take John Efford (please take him!), his accent is very close to the Jersey Islands where the ancestors of his community came from. You can also hear the Irish influences in speech of many of the 30% of Newfoundlanders whose ancestors came from Ireland.
Brian, I think you're correct I don't believe Holland delivers after 5; I must ask John next time I'm speaking to him.

Yes please take him ( John Efford) , as it stands , nobody here wants him, he went out on a limb for Paul Martin down here and found out just how loyal Martin was to him. Hugh what accent? I happen to speak the Queen's english , from about the time of the first Queen Elizabeth.

Brian,
EVERYONE has an accent (shhhhhh, don't tell them that); it just so happens that some of us speak the Queen's English and some have a different accent!!! :)
Rock on.......

At least we speak the Queen's English without a y'all attached to it. ;) That's what threw me off Howse... with all the talk of call centres and order gatherers, a red flag was raised.

By the by boys, my mother was right from the old sod, so I was raised with Irish... happily. It still infiltrates some of my word usages.
